Porter Peach Festival

Porter Peach Festival

The Porter Peach Festival is well known around the Tulsa area as a fun place to visit around mid July. Here’s a short story about our experience with it

Porter Peach Festival

When Pam and I were active in the exhibition clogging group called Miscues and the Cuties, we were asked to dance at the Porter, Oklahoma, Peach Festival held about mid July several times. We always had a good time at the festival and the crowd loved our clog dancing which even made it better. We always had some of their homemade peach ice cream and picked up a half bushel of Porter Peaches while we were there. Our daughters, Kristi and Tamara, always went with us and performed a couple of Duets to give us a bit of a rest between sets which we needed badly.

A very young Kristi and Tamara caught in mid air while doing one of their duets to give the Miscues and the Cuties a much needed break.

Since those days, our daughter Kristi’s family lives in Broken Arrow and she has kind of made it a tradition to take her children Ben and Sarah to the Porter Peach Festival every year and let them pick the peaches directly off the trees. The children love to go and they always take some pictures and put them on the iCloud so we get to go with them while sitting at home in our easy chairs. They always make us a peach cobbler or a peach pie after they have picked the peaches so we love the tradition too.

Here is Ben and Sarah (our grandchildren) in the peach orchards near Porter, Oklahoma in July, 2015 during the 2015 Porter Peach Festival. They have just finished picking a basket of fresh off the tree peaches. They both just love this annual activity.

This is Ben and Sarah in the peach orchards just after picking peaches in July, 2013 during the festival. My how they have both grown in the past two years. The peaches look yummy in both pictures.
