Oklahoma City

Oklahoma City

.

It was somewhat of a cultural shock to move to Okie City,
After living in the country in a town that so was little bitty.
This poem describes a little about our life in the big city years,
We changed from hayseeds to slickers with not too many tears.

Oklahoma City

.

We moved away from the peaceful green valley so remote,
To the fast furious life of Oklahoma City for us to promote.
I worked right downtown so the traffic I did have to fight.
Our office was a high rise with a very long line of sight.

.

We bought a three bedroom corner home, a fine place to stay
Just off of Rockwell very near the Northwest Expressway.
We had a pool and our own private lake with sidewalks around.
The girls rode their hot wheels around it at the speed of sound.

.

The lake had lots of fish, big white geese, ducks, and more,
Many mornings the ducks would be waiting at our front door
Begging for food and bread like a sty full of big fat hungry hogs
We would feed them, then they crapped there just like a dog.

.

Kristi was four and Tamara was two when we arrived there.
They attended preschool during the day with teachers that care.
This helped them prepare for the future school years to come.
And freed Pam to get a good job if she wanted to work some.

.

Pam found her a job doing silk flower arrangement designs.
She was very good with the flowers and her designs sold fine.
Her boss Olga became her lifelong true friend she did love.
We often spent time at Olga’s lake cabin near the big cove..

.

During the time I worked in Oklahoma City, we were very busy.
We built and started up four gas plants in three years in a tizzy.
The plants were Creek, Kingfisher, Okarche, and Cimmaron,
It seemed like the whole time I was there, we were on the run.

.

We found a nice place near home to eat and do country dance
Called Mardee’s that had a real thick T-bone steak by chance.
We learned the four corners dance there to the song Tulsa Time.
So we found a night spot to relive the work stresses just fine.

.

Pam joined the Phillips ladies bridge club to have some fun.
On her first day she bid seven spades and yes it did run,
The old ladies crapped their panties because she was so green,
And after that they all were careful because she was so keen..

.

It was here Kristi deceived the PhD doctor with the Rubics Cube,
She solved the puzzle in minutes and he thought she was astute.
He never found out that she peeled the colored stickers off
And stuck them on so the colors were right, the puzzle to solve.

.

We enjoyed our time in the City after an a period of adjustment,
But I was again promoted and off to the city of Houston we went.
We felt like we were now very used to living life in the big city,
But what a huge shock when we moved in, oh what a pity.
