Malelia (Mom)

My mother was one of the most important people in my early life. A poem that does her justice is impossible to write, but I have tried my best. The poem follows.

Malelia (Mom)

.
Oma Malelia was my dear mothers’ unusual name.
She raised her kids very well so she had no shame.
I told her very many times she did a fantastic job.
Because none of us ever cheat, lie, steal, or rob.

.
I was always Moms favorite child of her three,
My Dad favored my brother, it was easy to see.
Poor JerrylDine was always just in the mix,
But she did well and her future she did fix.

.
My Mom saved my backside hide a number of times,
By insuring my Dad’s hot temper was held in line.
For this, I relied on her for each time I got in trouble,
If not for her, my punishment would have been double.

.
Mom took us to church each and every Sunday morning,
Where they taught us the gospel, good for our learning.
We studied the bible and learned right from wrong,
And I was baptized right there in front of the throng.

.
She made some of our clothes that we wore to school,
Sewing was not her strong suit, so I didn’t always look cool.
Her cooking was superb, so we all ate extremely well.
Every Sunday we had pot roast, and in my mouth it was swell.

.
Mom made us good lunches and drove us to school.
She wrote my book reports, which I thought was cool.
She helped with my homework and kept me in line,
Until I graduated high school while doing just fine.

.
When I left home for college she cried just a touch,
But I came home often and she didn’t hurt so much.
When I graduated college on the Deans honor roll,
She was right there watching as I took the stroll.

.
After we left home, she had lots of time she could spare,
She took art lessons and became a unique artist rare.
Her paintings were great and she shared them with us all
They now fill our homes and look beautiful on the wall.

.
Mom and Dad bought a Cabin at South Fork on the Rio Grande.
We spent our summers visiting them in the mountainous land,
We rafted and fished the river and we all just had a ball.
Mom cooked, canned fish, and took good care of us all.

.
One year my Mom took her cat up to the Colorado cabin site,
The cat just disappeared, likely from a wild coyote bite.
Every year until five years later, you could hear her loudly call,
Here Kitty Kitty Kitty, as if her cat was there still walking tall.

.
She was quite a lady, that wonderful Mom of mine.
We all really loved her, and thought she was fine.
Always friendly and so nice to all people she met.
This fine lady called Mom we will never forget
