A New Old Memory
.
Last week after I signed off of my blog in my script,
I went down to the basement on a short little trip.
With no blog to write, looking for something to do.
As I stood there, an old feeling stirred in me all through.
.
.
A New Old Memory
.
I opened my little fridge there and saw a six pack of beer,
There’s no telling how long that beer had been in there.
But I knew then what I would do for the next two hours,
As I washed up a beer glass and popped a top with power.
Does cold beer get old?
.
I poured a beer and turned on my big old sound system,
Then opened my 45 rpm record closet door right then.
I pulled out two cases of old country records to play.
Feeling real good as I chugged some beer right away.
I’m getting that old time feeling.
.
I pulled out an old record and put it on the turn table,
One of my big speakers wasn’t working being disabled.
So I slapped the side and it came on sounding just great.
The old speakers are getting old like me on this date.
Mr Record Man, play that record for me, won’t you please?
.
That old music sounded so good from my big speakers,
And beer was going down fine for this good time seeker.
I played music for a long while drinking the cold beer,
Starting to get that old time feeling sitting down there.
I’m about ready to sing along a while.
.
I pulled out “Pass The Booze” by Ernest Tubb, so fine,
And began singing loud along with the song at that time.
Reliving some of those good times from far in my past,
Wondering how much longer my fun would then last.
They always sound better from the original issue 45 rpm record.
.
Pam came down stairs asking what I was up to now,
As I had the music playing real loud as I took a bow.
I pulled out “One More Drink” by Mel Tillis just then,
As I felt like two stepping like we used to do again.
Hey Pam, here’s one we can get lost in as we twostep.
.
That steel guitar starting moaning and we then danced,
Going counter clockwise on that floor as we pranced,
With that old floating feeling right down in my bones,
With a few good swings as we continued to dance on.
Well, it’s hard to get a good selfie while two stepping.
.
I guess the beer numbed most of my sharp leg pain,
As we were lost in a moment as we danced once again.
Having such a wonderful time just like we used to do,
I was huffing and puffing by the time we got through.
Let’s do that one more time Pam.
.
Pam left and I remained down in the basement to play,
More old country so I could sing along loud on my stay.
Then I limped back up the stairs hurting a little more,
As I pulled something dancing on the hardwood floor.
The old masters still keep me company when I play that old music.
.
But it healed up fine in a short day or two and did pass,
So I think my trip back was worth the pain in my old ass,
And I think I’ll go down and do it some more to reduce fat,
As I really enjoyed my trip right on back into my past.
Whoops, I forgot to turn on my beer drinking light this time.
