We’re Losing Them Fast

We’re Losing Them Fast

.

When great country singers up to heaven do pass on,
Their music stays with us and they don’t seem to be gone.
So you might say they just fade away over the years,
As we continue to hear them with an occasional tear.

.

Conway Twitty had an aneurism of the Aorta artery,
And left us at the age of 59 out on the road in 1993,
But starting in 2002 right on up to the present day,
We lost so many great country singers along our way.

.

Waylon Jennings was first to go February 13, 2002,
The “Nashville Rebel” was age 64 on that day so blue.
A “Brown Eyed Handsome Man” with advice so coy.
“Mamas, Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys.”

.

Johnny Cash passed away on September 12, 2003,
As “The Man In Black” found his way to heaven, you see.
Heading down that “Big River” up there on the fly.
With all those other fine “Ghost Riders In the Sky.”

.

Hank Thompson met his maker on January 6, 2007,
Finding a “Green Light” there on his way into heaven.
Thinking ‘this looks a lot like the old “Oklahoma Hills”,’
‘I hope they “Kindly Keep It Country” here at my will.’

.

Vern Gosdin was the next one in line on April 4, 2009,
And his full name was “Chiseled In Stone” so fine.
He may have said “Today My World Slipped Away,”
And “That Just About Does It” don’t it, on that sad day.

.

Carl Smith did leave this world on January 16, 2010,
After getting into “Deep Water” with his health then.
As he “Let Old Mother Nature Have Her Way” on that day,
As he stood there on “The Doorstep To Heaven” to stay.

.

George Jones did pass on away on April 20, 2013,
“Who’s Going To Fill Their Shoes” as Jones was the King.
The angels gave George the heaven “Grand Tour”,
Showing him “Choices” there for his soul so pure.

.

Ray Price crossed on December 16, 2013, in “Soft Rain.”
Singing “Make The World Go Away” to ease the pain.
Remembering family “For The Good Times” they had,
As “A Thing Called Sadness” filled their hearts for Dad.

.

Merle Haggard did pass on away on April 6, 2016,
As “Are The Good Times Really Over” we all did sing.
The “Okie From Muskogee” received his set of wings,
“Silver Wings” that is, entering those doors that swing.

.

Don Williams has just left us on September 8, 2017,
As we sang “If l Needed You” as he did leave the scene.
Because he was one of the “Good Ole Boys Like Me”,
And he sang “I Believe In You” with which we all agree.

.

There’s not too many real country music singers left,
George Strait is about to retire and take a little rest.
We still have Willie Nelson singing his songs so fine,
But I think the good stuff may still last a long time.
