The Songs We Grew Up With
.
When the mid fifties came around, there was a music revolution,
Everyone had to try making music, thus there was an evolution.
So much good music resulted and there were hundreds of labels.
Never again will we see a time where such fine music was enabled.

I remember those old songs we all loved as teenagers as we grew.
There was Rock and Roll, Doo Wop, and Rhythm and Blues.
The 1950s music was the very best there ever was or ever will be,
I’ve heard it all over the years and it was just the very best, you see.

“Blue, Blue, Blue , Blue Moon, Yeah Bah Dabba Dah” was so cool,
The Marcel’s sang that Doo Wop with all their heart and soul.
“Bam Dede Bam Dede Ding De Dong Ding”, Blue Moon we did sing.
As that special sound made us feel good as a great joy it did bring.

When Elvis came on the scene, that Rock and Roll music was right.
The girls just loved “That’s All Right” and ” Good Rockin’ Tonight”
We never dreamed it was the birth of Rock and Roll and we were there.
Such a fast growing baby we had never seen before anywhere.

That Rhythm and Blues song “Personality” had lyrics so very nice,
This song about a pretty lady walking and talking was by Loyd Price.
It has always been one of my favorite songs since it was new.
Loyd had a very smooth high toned voice for soothing me and you.

Buddy Holly recorded some songs that just made you feel great,
“Every Day” and “Oh Boy” were two of the favorites on my slate.
The Crickets special harmonizing added to their great sounds.
As their new recording style hit the charts in the USA all around.

I loved that song by the Tokens about a lion that sleeps the night away.
Singing that phrase “De de de de, de de de de de, de um um away”
In the high voice that just made you sing along with the song.
We felt like we were up on that stage singing with them right along.

Dion and the Belmonts sang these puppy love songs we loved so,
“Teenager in Love” and “Runaround Sue” were songs about us too.
In was nice to hear that other teens had some problems like us,
So we loved hearing those songs about fellow teens making a fuss.

Those cool songs by the Platters with that R&B sound that did sooth.
Like “Only You” and “Smoke Gets In Your Eyes” were so smooth.
This easy listening sound with voices that harmonized so well,
Made you feel just heavenly when out cruising, I remember well.

Then there was that soft “Bobby Vinton” sound about teen life,
That allowed us to dream a little about good times and teen strife.
“Rain Rain Go Away” and “Roses Are Red” were just so sweet.
“Blue Velvet”and “Blue On Blue” had that slow and easy beat.

.Those Chordettes had such sweet harmony singing back then,
We all loved “Mr. Sandman” that brought us a dream so often.
“Lollipop, lollipop, Oh lolli lolli lolli,” was such a very fine song,
I loved the deep voice singing that “Pa Poom Poom Poom” along.

I think the 1950s era was perhaps the best music years of them all,
There were so many other groups and names I can’t even recall,
That contributed to the great music we listened to so much.
As radios were all we had out there in our cars to keep in touch.
