Hello Again

Hello Again

.
I’ve been away for awhile to rest my old wrinkled eyes from strain,
They’re feeling better now so I’m going to try blogging again.
Today I thought I might talk about a few short little subjects
Of course, you don’t have to read these poems if you object.

Hello Again

.

   My Cousin Scott

.

I once had a younger first cousin that was named Roy Scott
Who had a tendency to get into trouble as mischief he sought.
It was fun to run with him as he was a very gutsy young man.
Who had a personality that often caused the shit to hit the fan.

.

I recall one time we were playing kick the can after it got dark,
I had found the perfect place to hide as under a hedge I did park,
Scott walked up to where I was hid and took a leak right on me.
I was never sure whether he knew I was there when he did pee.

Hey, I’m in these bushes, whose that peeing on me?

.

Another time I was riding in an old hot rod Model A Ford he bought.
The thing just had a frame and motor with a crank start you fought.
He was going about 35 in the boonies and hit a deep hole there,
And threw me out of the seat and the rear of my britches I did tear.

Scott’s old Model A Ford hot rod didn’t look this good, but you get the idea..

.
One time Scott talked a whole car load of boys into skinny dipping.
Through the fence at night and down the hill we went just a tripping.
We stripped off our clothes and swam raw naked in the dark.
Then drove to Borger and bragged about it as at the Post we did park.

Man this water is cold guys.

I remember one time Scott swiped a can of escargot at the store,
When he opened the can, there was a nasty smell we did abhor.
I tasted one of those ugly yellow masses and did almost earp.
I wondered why Scott had not swiped something we could slurp.

Yummy, does anyone want to try one of these delicious looking treats.

.

Scott was the driving force behind a lot of things that we did do,
So it was fun to run with him because of crazy things he led us to.
I think later when he started going out to the honky tonk bars,
His personality got him in some fights and left him some scars.

   State Champs

.

In 1954, the Phillips Blackhawks had a really good football team,
They won Texas High School Football championship “2A” class game.
Their coach, Chesty Walker, was one of the best in the land.
He got a job as coach at Washington State University in Pullman.

My older cousin Norman was on that team that was best in the state.
He got a scholarship at Texas A&M, to play football as he was great.
His shoulders were wide, and he had to turn sideways to get in a door.
He was a big man playing Guard that often made the other guy sore.

.

I was 11 years old when Phillips became the state football champs,
The whole town loaded into cars and went to all games like tramps,
Supporting our home team to help them get each of the wins.
We all loved our Blackhawks and pulled together to get to the end.
