The Big Five O

Wow, it’s been 22 years since I had my fiftieth birthday bash and I thought I was over the hill then. Enjoy life while you’ve still got enough energy to have a really good time.

The Big Five O

On my fiftieth birthday on February 20, 1993, I decided to have a celebration and invite all our friends. At that time, we were still square dancing with the Mickey Mouse gang, and clogging with The Trailblazers and The Miscues and the Cuties. I looked around and the only place I could find that was available and large enough to have the celebration was the National Guard Armory in Nowata, Oklahoma. It was very inexpensive to rent for a night also.

Members from each of these groups attended my fiftieth birthday party at the National Guard Armory in Nowta. There were about 25 of these fun people in these groups making my birthday very memorable.

We bought a keg of Bud Light and set up a self service bar. We got one of those 6 foot long hero sandwiches and chips and dip for snacks. We did a little square dancing, a little two stepping, and a lot of clogging.

I’m trying to keep the vultures out of the food until snack time is announced. Some of them are relentless.

The gifts were limited to gag gifts and were a lot of fun. My favorite gift was from Gene and Linda. The gift was a hand made crotch crutch that Gene made for old Bill. I loved the crutch but when I tried it out at home, the tray was a little short and not quite deep enough. On top of that I got a splinter.
