The Beginning 3

The Beginning 3

.
This continues the story right after The Beginning 2 does end.
By this time Pam and I were so much more than just good friends,
This poem finishes the beginning right on out to the very end.
Although it was a bumpy start, our lives were just heaven sent.

The Beginning 3

.

I bought an ice cream freezer to make some vanilla ice cream,
I engineered that ice cream so carefully, it would be a dream.
I picked up Pam and headed for that backyard ice cream bash.
I met all her family getting the third degree with questions asked.

How hard can making a freezer of ice cream be? I’ll figure it out.

.

.

.

.

When I opened my Ice cream, it was just a runny white juice,
I was embarrassed feeling like a big dumb engineer on the loose.
Why does this kind of awful weird thing always happen to me?
Right there in front of all Pam’s very close knit friends and family.

.

.

.

I wasn’t sure now whether I was ever meant to have a family.
But we hung in there together and kept plugging along, you see.
And after that ordeal, I asked Pamala if she would marry me,
Offering her a promise ring with a tiny stone not to easy to see.

It’s a tiny stone, but is just a temporary until we pick out the set.

We set the date for June 2, 1973, with a few terms we both wanted,
I had to get rid of the naked women paintings that her so haunted,
And I ask her to try to lose a few pounds for the wedding ceremony.
She told me my request was just crazy and I was full of baloney.

Wow, this is the first day of the rest of our lives.

..

We picked out a set of rings together at Zales Jewelry store.
When I picked them up, I made a big mistake like never before.
I traded in the promise ring getting a little better deal than I had.
I didn’t know for years that Pam wanted it and she was so mad.

.

On wedding day, I was so nervous that I cut my self shaving.
It was the end of my single days which were not worth saving.
The ceremony was great with a full house there at the church,
We both said “I do” and into a full life we began our long march.

My brother Craig was best man and Pam’s sister Darena, bridesmaid.
We had wedding cake in the back and punch that was just made.
When we left that day, the rice they threw stung so really bad,
Our car had cans tied behind and painted all over looking sad.

Here’s  to a long and happy life together.

We drove out to our Arroyo Verde home and changed our clothes,
Packed up our things in the Mustang Mach 1 and hit the road.
We were off on our honeymoon wondering what life would bring.
Soon we were back home together living as one our song to sing.

Well Pam, we’re on our way, let’s do some living..

.

.

.

.

We began the good life together right there at home in Arroyo Verde.
Wanting children to bless our home as soon as possible, you see.
By 1977. we had both our girls at home to love and cherish so.
Our family was in place with a long life left to enjoy as we go.

This is what that family life is all about. What a blessing.

.

.

.

.

.

The beginning is now long over as about 43 years have gone,
The girls are now middle aged ladies with families of their own.
We’re so glad the good Lord has seen fit to let us stay this long.
We hope that we left others good memories when we are gone.
