Sarah And The Hens
.
After raising those old hens from tiny little peeps,
The old hens know Sarah’s love is surely for keeps,
So she often picks them up and gives them a hug,
And they seem to love it sitting there looking so smug.

Sarah And The Hens
.
I’ve noticed that when Sarah is in the yard with the hens,
They follow her around like puppies ever now and again,
Especially that little hen that looks like a mini velociraptor,
Tracking its prey, which sometimes brings me to laughter.
.
Sometimes Sarah brings an apple out to share with the girls,
As they love that young lady with all the pretty curls.
She holds it down close in her little hand so sweet,
And gives those old hens a very nice sweet treat.
.
I think the mini velociraptor is one of her favorite hens,
As she’s been around the yard, since I don’t know when.
She named that old hen “Cluck” a very long time ago,
And she loves her Sarah very much, this I do know.
.
There’s another hen that Sarah loves a whole lot.
It’s feathers look like hair but Sarah says they’re not.
That little black hen looks like she’s got a big Afro,
On her head and also on her fuzzy legs on the go.
.
When company comes over Sarah shows off her hens,
Even that big old red boss hen for good family friends.
She comforts them so friends can pet them some,
To get to know some of her hens while she has fun.
.
When Sarah’s girl friends come over to visit at her home,
She helps them hold one of those big hens on their own,
While keeping the hen happy sitting on their little lap,
Sarah dearly loves those hens and they love her back.
.
There’s a big white hen that may be the biggest of all,
It takes both her arms to embrace that old gal so tall.
I’ve tried to get close to that hen, but she runs away,
But she’s let’s Sarah pick her up just any old day.
.
There’s another old black and white hen she loves too,
They all seem to enjoy it when she hugs them so true.
Sarah gathers their eggs from the big chicken coop,
Watching carefully not to step in the chicken poop.
.
All those old hens love Sarah’s brother Ben just as much,
As he too raised many of the hens with his soft touch.
I could have just as well featured Ben in this blog,
But it started off quickly with an idea from the Hawg.
.
The family names each and every hen when they arrive,
To become family members as those eggs they provide.
Here’s just a small sampling of some of their names,
Given to the hens the very day that they first came.
