Quality Time
I had a fishing trip outing with Kristi my daughter when she was just five. I have previously written a blog story about the outing and I thought I would try put the story into prose too.
Quality Time
.
I went on an outing with my daughter Kristi at five years old.
We went trout fishing with the breeze blowing her hair of gold.
The South Fork of the Rio Grande ran down the Wolf Creek Pass,
With some nice deep holes with lots of nice trout for us catch fast.
.
We went to a honey hole not to far from the main highway,
It was hidden from view and not heavily fished in those days.
There was a big rock that went half way across the stream,
Behind which water swirled into a deep hole that gleamed.
.
There was small bushes around the edges of the hole
That allowed us to stand near with our long fly rod pole
Without scaring the trout when we fished standing close.
This was an ideal place for us to bring home the most.
.
We discussed how to fish and I was to stick in the hook,
Then Kristi would reel them in as the pictures I took.
We used a long leader with no weight on it at all.
With an eagle claw hook that was ever so small.
.
On the hook we placed a single red salmon egg for bait.
I would flip it upstream and then just stand and wait
As the salmon egg swept deep into the deep honey hole.
On nearly every flip I would hook a trout that bent my pole.
.
Kristi would then takeover and reel them in very fast,
She pulled them in and landed them in the deep grass.
Of course we lost quite a few, but we kept on a going.
And in a hour and a half we were both tired and a blowing.
.
We caught a limit of twelve and both had a fabulous outing.
This was great Quality Time with Kristi, there was no doubting.
She remembers this great time with me to this very day.
I had the time of my life too, what more can I possibly say.
