Hard Questions

Hard Questions

.

Being a parent means you have to answer hard questions,
This poem is of time with my daughter Tamara in a session.
I’ve tried to recall the questions she asked that day,
Hoping I did not lead her astray with what I did say.

I published this poem about 3 years ago.
I saw it again and I sure did like it so.
So I’m rerunning from that time long ago,
Does it remind you of someone you know?

Hard Questions

.

Tamara asked “How long is forever”at the age of three.
I told her “It’s an endless time to guys like me.”
She asked “Will I live forever” and I told her “no,
You will live a finite amount of time before your have to go.”

.

She asked “Where will I go after I have lived my time”
I said “Your soul will go up to heaven which will be fine,
And your soul will have ever lasting life in a wonderland.”
She asked ” Daddy, what is my soul, I don’t understand?”

“Your soul is the spiritual part of you that gives your body life.”
She said “Can you show me where my soul is, if it’s alive.”
I said “It’s within your whole body and it is not normally seen,
She said “I can’t feel it, are you sure it’s inside this little queen.”

..

I said “You know when you feel bad when you do wrong,
Well that’s your soul just trying to help you along. ”
She asked ” Will it help me if I get attacked by a bear?”
I said “No it can’t do physical things, just run and don’t fear.”

.

“Daddy, does my soul help me feel happy or maybe be sad?”
I said “Yes I think you are beginning to see and it makes me glad.”
She said, “I think I’ll lay down on the bed and do my best
To sleep as my body and my soul both need to get some rest.

The hard questions went on until she fell off to sleep.
I thought “This parenting thing is getting very deep,
I hope that my answers helped her to understand
That life is not easy to comprehend in this our great land.”

Daddy, where did the Sun, the Moon, and the Stars come from?  Can we go see them sometime?
