Pock Pock Pock Padock

Our daughter Kristi and her family love those chickens,
That they raise in the backyard for good egg picking.
The variety of types of hens they do raise is truly amazing,
That have great beauty to share out in the back a grazing.

The first hen looks like a dinosaur stalking fresh meat,
She must be the off spring of a velociraptor so neat.
She seems to be standing there planning an attack,
Communicating with her buddies out there in the pack.

.

This old bird has two chicks following her in her class.
As she teaches them to scratch bugs out of the grass.
They’re looking down for any small movement at all,
Ready to peck up any size bug either big or real small.

.

This brown beauty looks like a brown ball soft and furry.
With the hairy looking feathers, I wonder if she can see.
Because I can’t even see her eyes there on her face,
And she seems to stumble around without any grace.

.

This gray and black lady has that royal queen style,
Kind of strutting out there in the backyard a while,
Trying to make the other hens talk as they run amuck.
As she holds her head high and gives them a cluck.

.

This hen looks like an old bitty as she watches the queen,
Strut her stuff as she stares at her, looking so mean.
Under her breath she gives a pock pock pock padock,
Spreading those rumors about her affair with a duck.

.

This small white hen kind of cocks her young head,
And her small white face may be just a little bit red,
As the old black and white hen is telling lies again,
About the gray and black hen who is her good friend.

.

This next old tall girl is kind of stretching her neck,
To see why all the ladies are fussing and raising heck.
I think she is standing on her tip toes to see the ruckus,
Until she can get on over there and join the big fuss.

.

These next two young ladies seem to be having a ball.
As whitey tells young brownie just ignore them all,
Those crazy old hens bicker all the whole day through,
And if you egg them on the feathers will soon fly too.

.

This hen is watching the action from the deep clover,
Eating those rolie pollies fast until the fuss is over.
Hoping the girls will all stay on that side of the yard,
Until all the tasty morsels she has gobbled up hard.

.

This young yellow hen can’t believe her own eyes,
Kind of dumbfounded as she seems to wonder why.
Those old hens can’t get along and stop that bickering,
If they don’t want end up as dinner after a good picking.

PS: All the hens pictured herein have been raised by Kristi and family,
And I can assure you none have ever been in danger of being picked.
