Nashville, Tennessee

.

When we were deep into clog dancing a while back,
We made many trips to Nashville in our van of black.
To National Clogging Conventions and other events,
We did lots of fun things there each time that we went.

We always stayed at the Opryland Hotel in Nashville,
As it was so beautiful there where we danced with skill,
Our girls often danced in the big closing clog show,
Making it more fun giving us a very good reason to go.

Sometimes we would head over to the Grand Ole Opry.
To go to a country music show that we all loved to see,
Skinny Pearl jumped in my lap on the way to the show,
Then Loretta Lynn made a surprise appearance, we loved so.

One afternoon we went to an auditorium called the Ryman,
Where the Grand Ole Opry was held way back then,
We fooled around a lot in there feeling so very fine,
With Ellis and Brenda feeling the old vibes from Patsy Cline.

We also checked out the Wildhorse Saloon on Music Row,
There were some crazy looking horses in there, you know,
Then we had some cold beer sitting in that cool place,
And fast two stepped a little as we finished our race.

We stopped by Ernest Tubb’s Record shop so very old,
And looked through old records that sounded like gold.
I bought Hank Williams and an Ernest Tubb or two,
As I looked through the records like I just loved to do.

I loved the old Country Music Hall Of Fame in Nashville,
With displays for Hank Thompson and also Bob Wills.
I loved the stars that I remembered singing the old songs,
I couldn’t believe Pam and I stayed in there so very long.

.

We found a George Jones Record Shop with big displays,
Very close to the Opryland Hotel where we did stay.
A Webb Pierce display and Ernest Tubb with his bus,
Made for an enjoyable time without too much fuss.

The Lows and the Blythes went out to eat as families.
At a five star Italian place called Giovanni Restorantee.
We ran into Tanya Tucker on the steps going on in,
And had fun inside the restaurant with her and friends.

.

Tanya asked us to join her at her favorite downtown bar,
Called Barbara’s Star Lounge that was not too very far.
And we spent all the evening with her at that fine bar,
Dancing with and listening too that very big country star.

We had so much good fun out at Nashville so very fine,
With lots of that real country music there at that time.
It would be so great to go back there again some day,
So we could again go to the Grand Ole Opry to play.
