Fun With Old Friends

Fun With Old Friends

.

We stopped in to visit some old friends in Tulsa yesterday,
And talked of fun times we had when we used to play.
As Misques And The Cuties back when we were younger,
Having much fun doing clog dance exhibitions out yonder.

Fun With Old Friends

.

Linda and Gene have no internet access in their home,
And don’t use many electronic devices we’ve known.
So they had been unable to read any of my old blogs,
And they asked me to print them a few blogs by the Hawg.

We first met Gene and Linda in 1988 dancing with Oklahoma Land Rush Cloggers at Willow Hall in Tulsa. Gene was Santa Claus for the kids and all the ladies at Christmas.

.

On our last visit to see Linda and Gene and their dog,
I dropped by about 50 printed copies of some blogs,
That I had previously written mostly about the Misques,
This had apparently really ignited Gene and Linda’s fuse.

That first time the Misques danced together, I wasn’t sure this was what I wanted to do unless we got some new costumes.

.

She called and said she had read them all many times,
And really loved those old times she relived so fine.
Enjoying the story poem blogs written by the Hawg,
That even put a smile on the face of their old dog.

We started with some big old Misque shirts of red with a turtle and the words “slow but precise” on the front

Then later upgraded to some more appropriate outfits to have lots of fun.  How about those bows and bow ties.

Linda got her another big shirt after we did a little free styling in Oklahoma City.

.

So I printed the latest Misque blogs I wrote in my script,
And we took hard copies with us on yesterdays trip.
Linda and Gene were both very mobile looking great,
Making us very happy as we visited on that special date.

We broke away from Landrush Cloggers and formed our own independent team. We practiced at Jo and Charlie’s Canvas shop in the evenings having fun.

I thought it would be fun if Linda read poems out loud,
So we could all follow along as we rode up in the cloud.
She started reading “Places We Danced” in her loud voice,
And immediately we were all laughing out loud to rejoice.

We all became great friends as we traveled all over to perform. We usually ate together after we did our exhibitions.  These pictures are a Midway Cafe in Bartlesville after doing Sunfest that day.

.

As we traveled back in time as we were sitting there,
Having the time of our lives way up high in the air.
She would read a little and stop and talk of the event,
Laughing out loud more than we have since way back then.

We all went Christmas caroling after our Christmas party at Gene and Linda’s house. What fun we always had no matter what we did.

.

Linda then read “More Places We Danced” as we did fly,
Way up there on that big cloud with a natural high.
Recalling more fun times we had dancing back in time,
As the Misques The The Cuties clogged looking so fine.

After an exhibition at the Taylorsville Country Fair, the Misques hit Eskimo Joes near OSU for some food and brew.  Those times together with the whole crew were always fun as we were always on the run.

.

Linda finally read “Misque Party” about one of our celebrations,
Down in our basement with Pam’s margarita creations.
As we partied just as hard as we clogged having fun.
I think Linda had the most fun there on that little run.

Vernon singing “This Ain’t My First Rodeo” to give us a break. Linda is still working the crowd to keep them entertained during our rest time.

Every once in a while, Linda ran into old friends that we didn’t know. We just gave them a hug and welcomed them there.

.

I will always cherish those times we had with our friends,
Giving our time doing clog exhibitions together back then,
Those were some of my favorite memories of all time,
And I love going back to relive them with close friends of mine.

After Gene and I danced with those Hula Mamas out at Allen Ranch, they parked a beer truck on the hill and we had free beer the rest of the day.

.

Pam and I love our visits with Linda and Gene now,
As we can still go back and relive all that fun somehow,
With this special couple we still love with all of our hearts,
Hoping we will all live forever and never have to part.

We continued to have fun with Gene and Linda long after Misques shut down. This was at Tamara’s Baby Shower for her first child Luke. True friends are hard to find.
