Mothering

My wife Pam has been a wonderful mother for forty long years.
This poem contains just a few short verses with her recent fears.
I guess all mothers will continue to mother their children forever
Through good times, bad times, and even when they have a fever.

Mothering

 

I guess a mother never ever stops being a mother at any age.
My daughters are now forty years old, so let me set the stage.
If Pam doesn’t get a call from them every day, she starts to worry,
I tell her they are just busy with life, but she still goes into a flurry.

Sometimes Pam thinks that others take advantage of the girls,
Because of their generosity helping others in that big old world.
This does aggravate the girls some and they tell Pam in a nice way,
That they are fine and Mom shouldn’t worry as it will make her gray.

 

 

.

Tamara’s work is very demanding and she turns off her phone.
All calls go to voice mail for a day and it seems she’s not home.
Pam thinks something has happened to her so she calls Wayco.
Wayco just laughs out loud and says “she’s right here you know.”

Kristi had some friends moving into a new house in Broken Arrow town.
They ask her to keep a Great Dane and a big pup that was brown.
The friends had trouble and she had to keep them a full week,
Pam worried the whole time that her grandkids, they might just eat.

.

 

Stay down pup or I’ll bite your head off.

I remember when the girls were young, Pam was a good  mother,
In fact, I think Pam was a very exceptional mother like no other.
The girls teenage years were perhaps the roughest of them all.
As getting them out of bed for school was almost Pam’s downfall.

 

 

.

I’ve watched Pam mother the girls for the past forty long years,
She did the job well with lots of great joy and even some tears.
I know the girls love her dearly for all she has done for them.
And I love her too, as I know she will mother until her time does end.
