Moms Are Special

Moms Are Special

.

My Mom was a very special lady that I loved very much,
Who did all the good things Moms do with her soft touch.
She also did many special things that were just for me.
That I will tell you about in my tribute poem for you to s
ee.

My Mom was possibly the best mom there ever has been,
Loving and raising me as her first son way back then.
She did everything that good Moms are supposed to do,
To raise me into a good man and see me on through.

Along the way, she did many things especially for me,
That were way beyond the normal call of Mom duty.
My Dad had a temper and he often did lose his control,
Mom often protected me then to keep my butt whole.

Mom could calm my Dad down just talking soft for a while,
So when he got mad, she was there talking with her style.
Which always reduced the punishment my Dad did give.
I was so thankful that I was her favorite of her three kids.

I hated to read those library books while in high school,
So Mom read them for me which I thought was cool.
She gave me a verbal summary of the books that she read,
Then typed up a book report after all our family she fed.

I always got an A on all of those book reports she wrote,
And the teachers never caught on, while sailing that boat.
I think Mom really enjoyed doing that work just for me,
As she read paper back books all the time fast as can be.

When at Frank Phillips I took an English Literature class,
They assigned me a theme to write that burned my ass.
About a famous poet of my choice that made me so blue.
Mom said “don’t worry, I’ll research it and do it for you.”

Mom picked Robert Burns as my poet of choice that day,
And researched at the library with hard work all the way.
She wrote me a master piece that I read with great pride,
And I got an A+ on that report that was 1/3 of my grade.

When I graduated college and bought a house of my own,
I was a single guy and needed oil paintings for my home.
I took Mom three of my favorite Playboy center folds,
And she painted and framed naked girls looking so bold.

I also found a picture in Scientific America I liked so much,
Of Devils and Angels all entwined with wings that touch.
And took it to my Mom to paint in oil for my own den wall.
It took three weeks and she said it was hardest of them all.

I can’t imagine a Mom doing more for her son that mine,
She loved me so much and I always loved her in kind.
Even though she’s been gone for fifteen long years now,
I think of her often as she deserves now to take her bow.
