Messing With The Boys

Messing With The Boys

.

I have three grandsons that I love with all my heart,
I was there when each one was born from the start.
Over the years we have become pretty good buddies,
I tried to make it fun so I wouldn’t be an old Fuddy Duddy.

.

Ben is the oldest of my grandsons that I do love so,
I asked him one day when we were sitting, you know,
Who would win in a fight between Batman and Superman?
He said Batman as he would use Kryptonite in his hand.

.

.

Luke is my next grandson that arrived one fine day,
He asked me to sing right into a microphone to play.
I cut loose with a red faced, loud “Be Bop A Lula” song,
And he just sat there flabbergasted for so very long.

.

.

Zack is my youngest grandson, a very special boy.
I was sitting in the living room working on my iPad so coy,
Zack came in, got an iPad, and sat between my legs,
And we both worked together with no words shed.

.

.

I bought Ben a brand new camouflage Cabela coat,
And Ben was strutting around just about to float.
He brought me a bowl of ice cream carrying a gun,
Later he shot his first deer wearing the coat on the run.

While down in Frisco messing with Luke one time,
He asked if I would like to exchange faces so fine,
I said “sure” so he used a new app to take a pic of us,
He worked his magic and suddenly our faces reversed.

.

.

I was sitting in Zack’s living room feeling so right,
When he sat down beside me for a story that night.
I read him a story poem called “Hugo Leo Lardo Low”
And he loved every word as it was a dog that I know.

.

.

Ben and I were messing around one day on a burn,
I said “let’s give them our serious Deniro look so stern,”
So we fixed our faces just right looking at everyone,
And stared them down while having so much fun.

.

.

We went fishing with the boys in Frisco on one fine day,
And Luke caught the first nice fish there at play,
I was a little jealous of Luke’s fish I must surely say,
So I fished harder to catch one as he went on his way.

.

.

Zack caught the next fish making me feel worse.
Zack’s was a nice fish also as I let out a silent curse.
But soon my pain was relieved, as I caught the third one,
And we all ended up having a whole lot of good fun.

.

.

Ben liked climbing the trees from a very young age,
The tree in my court yard was to him a big rage,
I sometimes messed with him while climbing the tree,
And he dramatized it making it fun for him and me.

.

.

Luke and the boys fished at Bass Pro Shop’s lake,
Sarah dug out the worms as I hooked them so great,
Luke caught lots of fish on that hot summers day,
As Sarah and I sat in the shade hooking worms for play.

At Frisco, there was an old chair in the garage so fair,
Zack looked at my hat and asked me about flys on there.
I told him a story about fly fishing in Colorado in the past,
Then he just hugged my neck right there so fast.

.

.

Occasionally, I bought Ben a Lego set to put together,
Ben could put the sets together faster than any other.
He loved explaining the details of his work to me,
I was proud of his work and listened to him so intently.

.

.

Not too long ago, I was down in Frisco messing with Luke,
He was looking cool on his Hoover board doing a juke.
I slipped on a horse’s head and we made quite a pair,
With his cute Pokemon slippers and my horse’s hair.

.

.

I always loved it when Zack slipped into my easy chair,
And we sat so cozy together looking so natural there.
Watching a show on TV show we both liked so well,
We seemed to be on the same wavelength, do tell.

.

.

It was bedtime at the hotel with both Luke and Zack,
So I read them a tall tale about ferrets from my blog pack.
They looked at the pictures as I read on along slow,
Enjoying the story so much, this I certainly do know.

Message: How boring life would be as an old man, if we didn’t have grandchildren to love and adore. They are the fuel that keeps this old man going, even though it may be slow.
