Life’s Puzzles

Life’s Puzzles

.

I’ve had a lot of education as I’ve traveled through my life,
But there are things that happen that still make me strife.
These puzzles of life all have explanations by guys so bright,
But I still wonder if their detailed explanations are right.

I wonder what that thing is they often refer to as instinct,
Which tells birds when to head south without having to think.
They always know when and exactly where they will be going.
It’s a puzzle to me I thought about often when I was growing.

I think Salmon must have a tiny fish brain inside their head,
Yet they find their way back from the depths of the ocean bed,
All the way home to the stream where they were first bred.
I wonder in they spread some kind of trail like crumbs of bread.

A honey bee can’t have much more than a tiny speck of a brain,
Yet he travels great distances to gather sweet nectar to retain,
And communicates with other bees on the fly with no language,
It puzzles me how the insect colonies survive without any anguish.

I have found I have an instinct also that leads me to a place,
Only twelve miles from my home in Bartlesville so very nice,
Something pulls hard to go there, even trying to stay away,
It puzzles me why I donate money to a Casino some days.

When a kitty cat drops from a several feet up in the air,
They always right themselves landing on four feet so square.
It puzzles me why they don’t overshoot and land on their side,
But, they always adjust right to save their fuzzy cat hide.

After a female black widow spider makes love with her man,
She paralyzes him and gobbles him up just as fast as she can,
It puzzles me why she kills him after he gave her much pleasure,
Instead of letting him go and eating a moth for her treasure.

I have seen children put a scorpion on a big red ant bed hole,
To watch ants sting the scorpion to death under a clear bowl.
It puzzles me what joy they all get watching the scorpion suffer,
An agonizing slow death without anything to act as a buffer.

Sometimes when I’m sitting home watching a show on TV,
I get a yearning to have a bowl of chocolate ice cream for me,
Then I think, no I don’t need it and it will only make me fatter,
It puzzles me why I head for the fridge thirty minutes later.

When I’m lying in bed peacefully sleeping so very sound,
I am awakened by loud ugly noises making my head pound,
Sounding like a bull moose mating call out on the forest floor.
It puzzles me how moose calls can result from Pam’s snores.

I don’t think I will understand these puzzles in my life time,
So I just accept that strange things do happen even in rhymes.
I’m sure there are things out there that puzzle you too,
So let’s except life is hard to comprehend and be through.
