Grandfather Time

Grandfather Time

.
I have a story to tell you about a good friend, so fun.
Who has traveled with me since nineteen seventy one.
He has stuck with me through hard times and good,
Always standing tall very near me just like he should.

My Aunt BuelDine and Uncle Harold were deep into clocks,
If fact, Uncle Harold’s CB radio handle was Tick Tock.
They had old clocks all over their home back then.
Making all the local area old clock shops very often.

I was single back then living on Arroyo Verde Drive,
In my new home in Fritch, Texas, where I did thrive.
I had bought new furniture, but it wasn’t too homey.
Way out in the country being just a little bit lonely.

That is me standing behind the blooming yucca on the porch on Arroyo Verdie Drive.

One day I got a telephone call from my Uncle Harold,
He said they found a grandfather clock that was old.
That would look nice in my living room on the left side.
He came by and got me and we took a long car ride.

.

We drove over to Pampa, Texas, to an old clock shop,
That had a beautiful grandfather clock looking so hot.
The guy said the clock was over 100 years old then,
Made in Germany when quality work was not a sin.

The old Grandfather Clock we have grown to love.

..

I liked the old clock and bought it right then and there.
For $225 cash because I always came prepared.
I picked it up in my old pickup truck that same day,
Wrapped in old blankets to protect the antique case.

My old pickup truck that I later sold to Buffalo Bob.

I set it up in my living room and I knew it was all mine,
Uncle Harold tuned it right up and it sounded so fine.
I just loved the beautiful tone of those very old chimes,
After some minor adjustments, it kept perfect time.

I married Pam soon after I bought that antique clock,
And it became our clock and we cherished our ticktock.
We grew to love that grandfather clock as did our girls,
It seemed like the best old clock in the whole world.

Each time we moved, we packed up the old clock,
And moved it with us to live on a brand new block,
Standing tall in each new home that we ever had,
Timing and chiming making us all happy and glad.

.

Our antique grandfather clock was with us all the way,
As we all hung in there together as we lived each day.
Pam still winds our clock to keep the chimes going,
Long after we retired in Bartlesville, it is not slowing.

After we are gone, Grandfather clock will still bong,
Our daughter Kristi and family will hear his song.
As that old clock will then be in their home to hear,
And they too will love him as he is such an old dear.
