Fine Art

There was a toy that I received for a present one time,
That turned out to be a gadget that was so very fine.
This was one of my very favorite gifts of that great era,
That was simple, but left me with a glowing artistic ora.

When I was just six years of age living on Third Street,
In Phillips, Texas, with my sister, JerrylDine, so sweet,
I got a present for my birthday that was so very grand
It was a device that amazed me held right in my hand.

The device allowed me to see those great works of art,
That I made myself with my little fingers so smart.
I felt so talented with those designs I created right there,
In my hand with that kaleidoscope so colorful, I do swear.

I just kept turning the round end around for hours on end,
Making new designs on every turn that to me it did send,

Blowing my mind because no two designs were the same.
When I made a really great design, I felt a lot of that fame.

After I had about worn my toy out that first day of play,
And I shared it with JerrylDine who was also amazed.
I wish we had some way to save designs we made then,
So we could look back now at the very best of them.

After my kaleidoscope wore out, I dissected its mass.
I was surprised to find only a few pieces of colored glass,

And many little mirrors focused on the eye piece hole,
To give us those beautiful symmetrical patterns with soul.

I was again amazed that all of that beauty could be seen,
By just looking through that hole at that colorful scene.
They must have sold millions of that inexpensive toy,
To nearly all of America’s very young girls and boys.

I wonder if they make a version of the kaleidoscope today.
I think not because of electronic pattern production , I say.
But I looked on Amazon and there are many for sale there,
So I guess young children are still intrigued everywhere.
