My Dad’s Temper

My Dad’s Temper

.

When old Pappy lost his temper, he sometimes turned into a man I  didn’t know.

I’ve talked some about my Dads temper in some of my earlier blogs. There was the time we were camping and he lost his temper and chased me for 15 minutes before he caught me, and the time he threw rocks at boats when they made waves in the area where he was fishing. Then there was the time he wanted me to go half with him on a fishing boat and I bought a motorcycle instead and he wouldn’t even talk to me for a while.

One time we were at my Grandmother Kendrick’s house and my uncle Son and aunt Crystal were there with their sons Mike and Norman. It was time for us to go and my Dad was calling me from the front room. Mike and Norman held me down and held their hand over my mouth. I could tell by the tone of his voice that he was getting madder and madder each time he called. They finally let me go and when I got there he grabbed my arm and whacked my butt all the way to the car with me crying all the way. On the way home he asked me why I didn’t come when he called me. I told him Mike and Norman were holding me down and that really fired him up. He started cussing and slammed on the brakes and headed back to whip my uncles ass for having such asshole kids. By the time we got there my Mom was able to calm him down and convince him it wasn’t my uncles fault.

When I was a Junior in high school, I had learned how to push the old mans buttons when I wanted to. We were arguing about something and he invited me to go out in the backyard to work it out. I told him ” I would but I don’t want to hurt you old man.” That really pissed him off and he started running towards me to take a swing at me, but on the way he kicked the bed leg with his bare foot toe and it put him down on the floor writhing in pain. I said ” I told you I didn’t want to hurt you.”, but he was done. He had to go to the doctor and it seems he had broken his little toe and he walked on crutches for a week. I felt bad about it later, but I don’t remember him ever inviting me to the back yard after that.

My Dad was a fine man that I loved dearly, but occasionally he would lose control when that temper flared up
