There were some strange things that went on when I attended Phillips  high school. Here are a few that I remember.

The Leak

.
The Phillips High School had crappers in stalls with doors on them. Cherry Bomb firecrackers were quite powerful and the fuse would stay lit underwater. Some kid lit a cherry bomb and flushed it down one of the crappers in the upstairs mens restroom one morning and the blast totally destroyed the porcelain toilet causing water to run out all over the bathroom and out into the halls. They sent the students home for the rest of the day and laid down some very strict punishments for getting caught with fireworks in school. There was a lot of rumors about who flushed the cherry bomb, but I never found out who the bomber was for sure.

The powerful cherry bomb could do a lot of damage when flushed down the commode.

The Fire Alarm

.

The Chemistry Lab for the chemistry class was on the second floor of the high school. All the chemicals we used for our lab tests were available for all to access in quart sized brown bottles Someone figured out the chemicals for an effective smoke bomb and dumped all they had of those chemicals in one of the lab sinks and set them off. The whole top floor was soon filled with nasty smelling smoke and someone set off the fire alarm. The whole school was evacuated for about 2 hours while they tried to figure out what had happened. After that, the chemicals were locked up and the students were only issued the small quantities required for the experiments.

False Creds

.

When I was a senior, I had a civics teacher named Mr Howell who seemed to me to be an extremely poor and boring teacher. Some of the other kids in the class started pranking him because he was one of those guys that just rubbed you the wrong way. One time someone threw his books and lessons out the second floor window just before class began. That was a mistake, because we had to listen to him add lib the whole class. He sat on a thumb tack someone put in his chair on one occasion, so he always checked his chair before sitting down. The school received so many complaints about him that they started checking his credentials. None of the schools he claimed to have taught out previously had any record of him working there. Also, he claimed to have had a masters degree which turned out to be false also. I guess they hired him by just reviewing his job application locally with no checking of the legitimacy of his claims. They fired him immediately. I didn’t learn too much about civics that year either. About three years after I graduated from high school, I ran into Mr. Howell working as a checker in a Gibson’s Discount Center in Lubbock, Texas. In a way, I kind of admired the man as he was able to pull off the hoax of being a teacher for a full year without getting caught

Let’s see, next year I think I’ll be a lawyer. I’ve watched all the Perry Mason shows on TV.

WHAN

.

We had a nice older lady Chemistry teacher named Audie Nicholson who had a pleasant personality that for some reason became the target of some of the students in her class. We had one of those class rooms with each row getting higher toward the back so everyone could see what was going on at the teachers station. Every day before she got to class one of the boys would write “5-4-3-2-1 WHAN” on the black board. She would come in and look at it, then erase it. Everyone in the class knew what it meant because the same boys often chanted it in the classroom before she arrived. As the weeks passed she got curious what that meant and pressed some of her best students to tell her what it meant. One of them finally broke and told her it meant 5-4-3-2-1 We Hate Audie Nicholson. She was devastated. When she addressed the class about it she actually cried, I felt so sorry for what those few students had done to this nice lady. She never seemed to have her heart in her work after that.

Can someone tell me who wrote this on the board and what it means?
