Character Bighead Toons

I thought I would try to recall characters I once knew,
And draw them on my pad as I remembered them too.
Then go back to compare them to the character I drew,
Then show them together here for everyone to view.

Character Bighead Toons

As I sat down to draw, I recalled old Yosemite Sam,
With a full beard of red color so I drew him right then.
I see when I checked he just had a big red mustache,
So my recall was not so good and I did burn and crash.

I remembered a guy named Arte Johnson on Laugh In,
Who wore a German soldier helmet with a big grin,
Again when I checked, I forgot his big old glasses,
My memory was not real fine again, slow like molasses.

There was a guy I saw on a very old television show,
Who’s name on the show way back then was Sargent Bilko.
I took a shot at drawing him from memory one day,
And forgot glasses and the uniform was wrong. I do say.

I took a shot at drawing a boy that was named Pinocchio,
That I saw in and old movie a very long time ago.
I forgot he was made of wood as his nose did grow,
But I didn’t do too bad on Jiminy Cricket as I did go.

Alley Oop was on my mind one day I heard an old song.
But I hadn’t seen him anywhere for oh so very long.
I took a shot at drawing him from very faint recollections,
And I see I didn’t come close with my minds reflections.

Jimmy Durante was an old actor so very long ago,
With a big snooz right there that seemed to grow.
I Don’t think I did too bad drawing Jimmy in a pose,
But his main features were a bald head and big nose.

I remembered a guy named Sluggo on Little Nancy,
With a funny hat and shaved head not looking too fancy,
But I can see I wasn’t even in the ballpark as I drew,
From old faint memories that needed to be renewed.

That guy on the Katzenjammer Kids that I tried to draw,
Who I remembered as “Captain” with a German drawl.
Turned out to be a drawing of “The Inspector” instead,
With the wrong color beard, I guess my memory was dead.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

.

I tried to draw Beetle Bailey from the old comic books,
Always hiding from the sarge as those naps he took.
I see from the comparison to the original character,
I wasn’t close as his hat covered his eyes in the picture.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

.

I just barely remembered a Joe Palooka from comics,
As I started drawing a Bighead toon barely recalling it.
I knew it wasn’t even close so I named the toon Egg Head,
Remembering a young man that I had known as a kid.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

.

After comparing what I did with the old original art.
I think all my toons can be called original art at the start
As the guys I drew hardly resembled the real thing.
So these will be some of my guys with the same name.
