Sometimes while growing up with families that you love,
One aunt stands out like a beam of light from above,
This poem is about a very special favorite aunt of mine,
That was always so happy that she actually did shine.

My mother’s feisty younger sister was named Buel Dine.
She had one of the finest personalities I’ve ever seen.
She married a man called John Harold, in the army of the USA.
And had three children, Ricky, Scott, and Kristi, I do say.

.

She and her family lived in Phillips, Texas , a small place.
Once a month she cut my hair in a burr at a very fast pace.
As long as I can remember she was my favorite aunt,
And she was always fun to be around, as if she was heaven sent.

.

Our families were very close and spent much time together.
We had a lot of fun camping out near the Conejas River
Where we fished, hiked, and lived in the great outdoors,
Loving every minute of our time together on the river shore.

.

Later, our families both acquired cabins in Colorado,
Near South Fork where the Rio Grande River flows.
We fished, rafted, hiked, and had family get togethers.
It was here that Buel Dine shined out like no other.

.

When we were in her cabin for soft drinks and snacks,
She would get all of us kids gathered around in a pack.
She could tell intense stories like no one else I have heard,
And keep us mesmerized with verbal visions we incurred.

.

She told of Little Blue Blue and the mean old witch,
In the Beeble Berry patch that made us start to twitch.
Then we jumped out of our pants when she turned loose
That loud wicked witch laugh, and we got bumps of the goose.

.

She told us many stories that we all just loved to hear,
And sang with my Mom, songs from back in their younger years
One song they sang with energy was “A Tisket, a Tasket”,
Harmonizing very well about a brown and yellow basket.

.

Buel Dine and my Mom both sold sexy stories to Red Book.
They kept the originals, but they wouldn’t let us look,
But we saw one story that talked about rubbing tummies
And we figured it out because we were not dummies.

.

Buel Dine went to college at West Texas State in later years,
To get a degree so she could teach school because she cared.
She loved her students and they dearly loved her too,
With her natural teaching abilities, they all made it through.

.

Our families were so close during our growing up years
And aunt Buel Dine was always just a sweet sweet dear.
With her special talents and great outlook about things,
We loved her dearly and the joy to all of us she did bring.
