Big Balls

Big Balls

One of the best times I had with the Rhythm Aces clog team was dancing the “Big Balls In Cow Town” show routine. I loved Bob Wills music, I loved clogging, and I loved having fun with our clogging buddies. Dancing this routine was perfect for me as it involved all three of the things I loved in it. Here’s what we did.

Big Balls

When the Rhythm Aces did the ” Big Balls In Cowtown” show routine, we had a lot of fun with the costumes and actually performing the routine at the competitions. Since this was one of my favorites, I decided to revisit what we did. Every time we did the routine, everyone said they just loved the routine and made a big fuss about it. Brenda made all the horns out of black baseball caps and coat hangers covered with black cloth and stuffed with cotton. They held up really well as we did the routine 20 or 30 times at competition and exhibitions. In fact earlier this year, I gave my horns to my grandson Ben, and they still looked good. Brenda made a special pair of horns for the big bull and they kind of flopped when I danced.

The ladies came up with the cow outfits with the extra long eyelashes that gave them a unique feature also. They had spotted outfits with cute little ears.

When the show opened, the bulls and cows were penned up in a coral on the right side of the stage. The music started with a yodeling excerpt from Eddie Arnold’s “Cattle Call” with the Bulls yodeling at the sky. Then Bob Will’s “Big Balls In Cow Town” started and the cows dance across the front of the stage with the bulls following close behind them. We did the show routine dance and at the end we danced off the stage the way we came on but with the bulls leading. The bulls go back into the coral but the cows start prancing around out in front of the coral shaking their rears around. An excerpt from Joe Diffie’s ” When The Cows Come Home” ending with the bulls bellowing comes on and the Bulls knock down the coral and the cows then run across the stage with the bulls hot on their heals. We had more fun doing this routine than you can ever imagine and the audiences reaction was always fantastic.

On the bull row (l- r) Kay ( the littlest bull who refused to wear balls), Ellis, Bill, Gary, and Fred. Aren’t they the horniest bulls you’ve ever seen? If you look close, you can see the rings in each of the bulls noses.
