Another Bedtime Story

Another Bedtime Story

.

Every once in a while, I write a bedtime story for my grandkids,
That I can tell them when I see them and it’s time to go to bed.
This poem bedtime story is about two mischievous ferrets,
Who were brothers that both just loved to snack on carrots.

Another Bedtime Story

.

Snowto was a snow.white ferret that loved his masked brother,
Called Bandito because he had a natural mask like no other.
They were born in a big family who were all so very pink at birth.
They had to fight their siblings for a spot to eat at mama’s girth.

When Snowto and Bandito were growing up with their family,
They grew to love each other with a brotherly love all could see.
They wrestled and played tag until they were all just worn down
Then they curled up to sleep with mama’s warm tail all around.

As Bandito grew older, he decided to leave and go out all alone,
He wandered around in the country hunting food on his own.
But he missed his big family that were always around to play,
So he looked for one of his brothers that with him might stay.

One day Bandito was stalking a small kangaroo rat for a meal,
When he saw a flash of white in the bushes partly concealed.
He backed off slowly and snuck around the area of the white,
And was getting ready to jump on top ot it and give it a bite.

He was crouched down ready to jump and he saw it was Snowto,
His own brother stalking the very same rat he was after also.
He jumped on Snowto and gave him a ferret hug with his paws.
They were both so happy to see each other they had to pause.

They talked about old times in that special ferret language then,
And told each other of their travels since and where they’d been.
Then made a new pact that they’d never leave each other again.
And Snowto and Bandito would now live as one as a new trend.

They found them a nice cave in the rocks hidden from sight,
And made soft beds of grass inside allowing them to sleep tight.
As they grew older, they became excellent hunters for meat,
And learned how to avoid predators looking for something to eat.

Bandito was smart and learned to mimic the vicious wolverine.
So he could scare off the great horned owl he had not seen.
When that big owl swooped down Bandito jumped in the air,
Looking like a wolverine to give that owl a great big old scare.

A bobcat was always trying to catch them for his meal to eat,
So Bandito would put on his very best wolverine act so neat,
To make that bobcat cat turn tail and run fast for the tall hills.
Which always gave Bandito ferret a great big old happy thrill.

Snowto became an excellent hunter and especially liked moles,
He listened for them in the woods and dug them from their holes
They loved that tender mole meat with watercress appetizers,
They were living the good life and they were both early riser

These two young warrior ferrets continued to live the wild life,
Running together living dangerously without any young wive’s.
They both just loved the big thrills that the single life did bring,
They’re probably still out there living in that cave by the spring.
