Just Can’t Quit
.
Well my daughter Tamara was right, so here I am back again,
Although my story has been told, I need to write now and then,
With this poem, I know my poetry is written for my benefit,
And not for the busy lives of others with no time at to read it.
( Just a reminder from the past of why I write these poems,
I may disappear a while but I will likely get back going.
As I may need to further stimulate my old brain again,
To keep it fresh recalling what’s left in there as I begin. )
.
(I pulled this out of the archives to rerun it for those who wonder why I write these poem blogs)
.
Just Can’t Quit
.
When I was a young man living life to the fullest in my prime,
For poetry and such nonsense, I just never ever had the time.
There were too many other things that I always wanted to try,
And it seemed like I would barely have the time before I did die.
.
Now that I’ve gotten old and can’t do a the things I used to,
I hate to give up and say “that’s it, I guess I’m now through.”
So I started poetry to keep me busy, rather than fading away.
It may seem strange now, but as you age, it won’t some day.
.
Live a full life and don’t miss a thing while you can enjoy it,
I know that loving and raising a family is a joy you won’t forget.
But one day they’ll leave home to begin a family of their own,
Grandchildren will bring loving joy again that you have known.
.
But we can’t be with them all of the time as they are miles away,
So we must find things to exercise our minds so they don’t stray,
The challenge of poetry keeps my mind fresh and very alert,
I hope it keeps Alzheimer’s away from this man so I won’t hurt.
.
.
Poetry causes me to dig deep in my memories to keep them alive,
And then leaves a record of those thoughts so others don’t strive
To remember me after I am no longer here on this great earth.
And they may share with new generations long after their births.
.
The poetry lets my imagination soar as I sit in my easy chair,
Writing down my thoughts rather that wasting my time here,
Making them rhyme to challenge me a little more while writing.
As I have been a guy that will not go down without fighting..
.
There are so many things for young people to do these days,
There is just not time to read poetry as they would rather play.
I was the exact same way in the prime or my life way back then,
And I wish that I could go back and live all those days again.
.
So I know now that I am writing this poetry for me and not you,
And I will still keep publishing the poems until I am through.
I will just keep on writing these rhyming verses for me today,
Hoping that others may read them as they get older someday.
.
I have finished my life story by now, but these ideas keep coming,
So I will start once again and publish once more just a running.
Even though no one out there has time now for reading poems,
At least I now have a brand new direction that I am now a going.
.
The new poems may be about anything at all with no direction.
Whether you read them or not will be by your own self selection.
So if you see them there on Facebook you may pass them on by,
Or hide them if you want to read the real juicy stuff on the sly.
