Beavers Bend

Beavers Bend

Family outings are chicken soup for the soul. There’s nothing better than spending quality time with family members we all love. Here a recent adventure we all had together.

Beavers Bend

In early June of 2014, our family rented a nice cabin adjacent to Beaver’s Bend State Park and Broken Bow Lake. We arrived on Saturday afternoon and got settled in. Tamara had reserved this very nice cabin with an eight foot porch all the way around the outside and very nice furnishings inside. There was a hot tub on the porch and a fire pit for night fun. Pam and I, Carl, Kristi, Ben and Sarah, and Wayco, Tamara, Luke and Zack were all there. A little later we all headed for the swimming hole in Beavers Bend State Park to do a little serious swimming. Luke, who swims like a fish, swam all the way across the lake on his own. Sarah, who just learned how to swim two weeks ago, saw Luke make the swim. Without telling anyone, she decided to make the swim without a life jacket. No one saw her until she was half way across. We were all about to have the big one when we saw her, but Wayco came out from the other side to make sure she made it. The water was very cold at about 50 degrees F.

The cabin “Choctaw” we rented near Beavers Bend State Park. The porch all the way around the house made a good run way for the grandchildren.

Carl talking to Sarah about taking off swimming across the lake with no life jacket and without telling anyone. She gave us all a scare.

After swimming until about 6 PM, we headed back to the Cabin. The hot tub was all warmed up and ready to go. The group took turns in the hot tub. What fun.

The Taylor’s enjoying the hot tub. Did I see some bubbles coming up near Carl?

Kristi and Carl brought rib eye steaks and they grilled them that evening with baked potatoes and corn on the cob. Very yummy.

Kristi just laid a large Rib Eye Steak on my plate and I’m about to dig in. Believe me, it was great.

.
Our scout Carl built a fire in the the big fire pit, (with two matches) and the grand children roasted wieners on a stick and a little later they roasted marshmallows and made smoors. They had a ball. The grandchildren all hunted bugs later that evening after it  got dark. You would be surprised what strange looking critters they found. They reported hearing some strange sounds near the cabin in the dark? We were all tired and went to bed after that.

.

Early the next morning, Kristi and Carl got up and fixed breakfast for everyone. We had scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, mountain potatoes, cinnamon rolls, coffee, and watermelon. Now that’s hard to beat. They all decided that they wanted to go fishing, so were went to the trout fishing area for a couple of hours. All the kids caught one was one crawfish. So off we went to the paddle boats and canoes. The family went out in canoes and paddle boats and came back and switched later. For 10 bucks a boat, this entertainment is hard to beat. They all loved it.

.
We had lunch in the park, then went back to the cabin and listened to some old tapes I made of the girls when they were about the age of their children. Tamara got out a Bluetooth disco ball and Kristi connected her iPhone wirelessly to the Bluetooth speaker and all of the girls danced to “Let It Go” from “Frozen” with the disco lights flashing. Sarah just absolutely loved this. The other three ladies had a great time too.

.
Kristi, Carl, Ben and Sarah had to leave at 5 PM, so we bid them a fair adieu. The kids just hated to leave. Sarah wanted one more shot at the hot tub. Later Wayco, Tamara, and I went to pick up some Pizza for dinner. We stopped at this quaint little bar in the boonies near our cabin and ordered Pizza to go. While we were waiting, we had a couple of cool ones and ate some red hot pretzels while we watched the Heat vs the Spurs on the big screen. The pizza was excellent.

Wayco and I drinking a really good beer while waiting for our pizzas. Notice the sign above my head. We had to pay for our beer.

.
The next morning, we packed and cleaned up. I wrote in the book they kept in the cabin for comments. While I was writing my comments, Luke got out his tablet and wrote down all the weird things that happened while he was at the cabin which I included below.
