Young Doug

Young Doug

.

My sister JerrylDine married Pete always loving him so much,
This poem is about their only son named Mark Douglas as such,
During the younger years of his life when I was there close by.
I remember just a little bit about those days, so I’ll give it a try.
Denise is Doug’s older sister that was always nearby those days,
So she will make a couple of guest appearances along the way

When Doug was born, he was a very stout looking young baby,
He looked tough lying there on the bed thinking, just maybe.
If that guy gets a little closer, I’ll hit him with my little bitty fist,
All clenched and ready if he tries to give me a little old kiss.

Just try to kiss me and I’ll punch you in the chin.

I remember that little smirk Doug has right there on his face,
From that time I was jumping on the trampoline at his place.
I was just showing off doing some of those fancy back flips.
When I pulled every muscle in my young back, a really bad trip.

.imageI bet Uncle Bill won’t be jumping on my trampoline anymore.

This photo looks to be about the time I was at Doug’s Phillips home,
Playing bridge with his Mom, Dad, and Craig just barely grown.
Denise walked up to the table and picked up my Winston cigarette
And took a puff, then coughed as her breath she could not get.

Those bridge games looked kind of boring to me.

Believe me, I will never ever take another puff off of a cigarette. (She never did).

On my wedding day, Doug was there as our special ring bearer,
That boy dressed up pretty good for sometimes being a terror.
He even made it to the alter with our wedding rings on that day,
We thank him from our hearts as we started along lifes way.

Denise was there too on that very special day for Pam and I,
As the beautiful flower girl standing there so dainty and nice,
I think her and Doug were waiting right outside the church door,
To pelt us with rice as we headed for our honeymoon and more.

.image

I must say Denise, we do dress up pretty good. This was kind of fun.

Once we were settled into our home at Arroyo Verde back then,
Doug came out to go on an Easter egg hunt trying hard to win,
Silver dollars that were hidden inside of the eggs hidden there.
Lady Luck was with him as he got a prize egg by hunting everywhere.

I always was lucky, it’s a silver dollar.

We came to visit my sisters family after they moved to Bartlesville,
And we headed on out to Woolaroc to try to find some thrills.
While there, Doug and all the girls took a picture by the chief.
His Phillips Blackhawks shirt shows the move caused him grief.

Woolaroc was fun today Denise, I think Kristi and Deborah enjoyed it too.

Like the rest of us, Doug has aged a little bit since those years,
But I’m sure he remembers the old times with a few joy tears.
We all miss those days of old back when we were very care free.
But I don’t think Doug’s changed that much, don’t you agree.

i have a beard now, but other than that I guess I look about the same.
