What Ben Is
Ben is my first born Grandson that came into this big old world,
I was right there when he was born to give his first life a whirl.
This poem is about my very first Grandson, a fine young man.
Who works so hard to be the very best that he possibly can.

Ben is my first born Grandson who is a very fine young man,
Perhaps, the most honest and trustworthy in this whole land.
We often have long talks about some of the things he likes best.
As he loves to talk in detail about things of which he keeps abreast.

Ben, are you sure Ironman wore a suit that was that color in his last movie?

Ben is a protective big brother to sister Sarah he loves so much.
It is obvious they are so very close as there is love in his touch.
They fight a little like all brothers and sisters so often will do.
But Ben is always there for her if she needs help, I tell you true.

Sarah, you are the best sister in the whole world. I love you.

Ben is a Boy Scout and he was Cub Scout just a few years ago,
His Dad and Grandad were very avid Boy Scouts of note too.
Being a Scout helps young men become better prepared for life,
This fits our Ben to a tee as he always tries to do things right.

Don’t worry Sarah, I’ll take care of you, I’m a Cub Scout now.

Ben is a master builder tackling the most difficult of the Legos.
It amazes me how fast he builds them from tiny blocks on the go,
To a finished detailed final project looking especially perfect.
His talent for building requires great intelligence not hard to detect.

This is one of my Star Wars masterpieces that fires real rockets.

Ben is now a football player that can block the other guys with ease.
As he has grown very strong so the coaches he does please.
I love to watch him playing football keeping him physically fit.
Soon all the girls in his class will chase him and he will love it.

Ben is a deer hunter at the ripe old age of 10 hunting with Dad,
They have shot a deer for the last two years and were so glad.
It’s hard to believe Ben’s growing up so fast already out hunting,
This year I’m giving him my Ruger 7 mm rifle he’s been wanting.

Ben is a fine fisherman and I take him fishing when I am able,
He fishes hard and often catches big fish for our dinner table.
I love sitting out there on the bank with my first grandson Ben,
Talking about the big ones that get away every now and then.

Ben is a scholar doing so very well in his subjects at school,
Last week he was awarded for making the honor role so cool.
I was so proud as he walked across that stage to get his award,
It seems all my grandchildren are so intelligent, welcome aboard.

Ben is a church member going there regularly every single Sunday.
I can tell by talking to him he is learning all the right living ways.
He says the grace when we have dinner with his family there.
And it is oblivious he has studied the bible and does really care.

Ben is a most special young man that I do love so very much.
He still gives me a big hug when we meet with his strong touch.
So I will continue to watch him age and mature as he grows.
Loving him along the way knowing he soon will be a man, I suppose.
