The Transition
.
For a single guy, getting married changes his way of living considerably. This transition for me was quite substantial, but I loved every minute of it.

The Transition
.
When I moved into my first house at 218 Arroyo Verde Drive in Fritch, Texas, I was still single and looking for a girl to marry. I went to Amarillo and ordered most of the furniture I needed from one store and had it delivered. I now had to decorate the house and I was still single, so this is what I did.
I had my Mom paint me three nude lady oil paintings using my playboy center folds as models and hung them in the den. I bought a set of longhorn bull horns in Colorado and hung them in the den over the fireplace.
For the bedrooms, I ordered a bright orange soft and fuzzy bed spread for the King size bed in the master bed room. It really felt good when you laid on it naked. I also bought a bright purple bathroom set with long fuzzy 2 inch purple hairs on it for the master bathroom. A perfect match for the bedspread. In the guest bed room, I bought a leopard skin soft and fuzzy bed spread. Now I had furniture and a smartly decorated house.
About a year later, I married Pam and The Transition started immediately. First she had me get rid of the nude lady oil paintings, so I gave them to my oldest unmarried relative who I believe was Doug at the time. My Mom graciously provided several nice landscape oil paintings to replace them. Next, Pam gave the orange bedspread and the purple bathroom set to the Salvation Army. She replaced them with boring neutral colors that matched the carpet. Finally she dumped the leopard skin bed spread and replaced that.
In the kitchen, the refrigerator went from cooling peanut butter and beer to a fully food stocked refrigerator, We also purchased a freezer and loaded it with beef we butchered ourselves. A new clothes dryer and washing machine was added also.
In the garage, my car went from a Mustang Mach I Sports car to an International Travelall Wagon within a year. Wow, what a change, About the only thing that survived the transition was my longhorn bull horns over the fire place. These bit the dust when we moved to Oklahoma City.
On the wall behind me are the longhorn bull horns that survived the transition.
A year after we got married, the transition was over and we were a family. Of course the best thing resulting from the transition was having Pam for a new life long partner and the birth of our two daughters that were born while we lived the good life at Arroyo Verde in Fritch.
Kristi and Tamara enjoying the good life at Arroyo Verde in Fritch, Texas.
