The Geezer
.
When I was a young man feeling so great then in my prime.
My brother Craig and I called our Dad “geezer” all the time.
Dad was really not all that old when we called him the name,
It was just as young men together, to us, it was a fun game.

The Geezer
.
I now do regret that we called Dad a geezer way back then,
As I didn’t even know exactly what a geezer was, such a sin.
We even laid a special nickname on him which was “The Geeze”
When we often talked about him as we both did like to tease.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
We never called him “The Geeze” right to his face as I do recall,
Because Craig and I really never did have big enough balls.
So our conversations about “The Geeze”, he never did hear,
Even when we went out fly fishing and drinking that coldĀ beer.
.
.
.
.
.
..
I think Dad made Mom a promise never to drink booze at home.
So when Dad got the chance, he drank booze as he did roam.
Craig might say, “The Geeze” is sure packing away the beer,
After Dad headed to the middle of the river to fish with no fear.

It was kind of a brotherly thing to call our Dad “The Geeze”,
As if we were getting away with something bad, if you please.
We had fun with our discussions and Dad never did get hurt,
I don’t think he ever knew that nickname from our little exerts.

.
.
.
Dad had quite a red hot temper, so if he ever really did know,
He held it in well and never did let his red hot temper show.
When Dad got mad, he would really grind his teeth together,
And clench his fists tight with some curse words like no other.

I think that Dad was very proud of Craig and I as we grew older,
And both got Mechanical Engineering degrees on our shoulders.
This was his own dream which he helped us both complete.
Our sister, JerrylDine, also married and Engineer named Pete.

I think Dad was just about as happy as a man could ever be,
With all 3 of his children holding on to an engineering degree.
So perhaps Dad didn’t even care if we called him “The Geeze”
As he was proud to be all his kid’s father even when we teased.

Craig and I never meant any disrespect calling Dad the name,
It felt better than saying Daddy as we played our little game.
We hunted and fished and talked about “The Geeze” quite a bit.
As he was the center of our universe who we loved with grit.

“The Geeze“

.
As I think about it now, he may have considered it an honor,
To be given a special name by his sons before he was a goner.
I keep thinking of that popular show called “Pawn Stars” on TV.
The senior pawn show star is called “The Old Man” for all to see.
.
“The Old Man”
.
.
..
.
“The Old Man” is loved by everyone and deserves big time respect,
As he got his family into a thriving pawn business, what the heck,
We also had big time respect for “The Geeze” as up we did grow,
And I think he always did know that all of his kids loved him so.
