The Boogie Man

The Boogie Man

.

When I was a young lad, everyone always told me like rats,
The big bad “Boogie Man” was going to “Get Me” if I did that.
I didn’t know this “Boogie Man”, but my imagination went wild,
And a scary monster was born in the mind of this young child.

The Boogie Man

.

The word boogie suggests something green, gooey, and slimy,
Sometimes with black stiff hair hanging out looking very grimy.
If you can imagine a man that looks like that, he would be scary,
Especially with black stiff hairs making him look ugly and hairy.

So it’s not any wonder the “Boogie Man” scares girls and boys,
When he shows up on dark nights with his ugly eyes that destroy,
Sending us under the bed to hide trembling with a terrible fear,
That often scared us so much that we would even cry real tears.

.

..

.

This was how I conjured up the “Boogie Man” in my young mind,
That scary guy always hiding in the dark shadows easy to find.
Although he never got ahold of us or really did us any real harm,
He was always lurking there in our minds causing us some alarm.

Perhaps if this man that scares children was called “Doody Man”,
I would have seen him as a stinking lumpy dark brown or tan,
That had peanuts sticking out of his skin surface looking like hell.
I think a “Doody Man” would have scared me more with his smell.

.

.

.

I heard hundreds of times the “Boogie Man” is going to get you,
So it’s not any wonder we all conjured him in our minds so true.
I think everyone had a version of him that scared them too.
What did your Boogie Man version look like in your mind to you
?

.

Even at the old age of 74, I still sometimes see the “Boogie Man”.
In  dark room with His ugly face in his “get you” scary stand.
I flip the lights on and he was just a figment of my imagination,
Formed by shapes and shadows there for my own agitation.

.

.

.

.

..

.

If I can still see him at my age sometimes giving me a scare,
I can see how a boy could be frightened badly with him there.
My imagination was 10 times greater in those days of my life,
Causing me to often get in bed with my Mom to relieve my strife.

.

.

.

..

.
So let’s all be careful what we say now to our very young children,
That may frighten them and affect them for  years after then.
I can’t remember who sicced the “Boogie Man” on me years ago,
But it frightened me many many times after that, this I do know.
