Summertime Blues
Today is September 22. 2016. and again it is still so hot,
The high is predicted to be a 93 degrees F sweltering pot.
It is the first day of Fall and it still feels like July out there.
I hope some Northern cool air will soon find its way here.
Summertime Blues
Last winter, I recall only one small snow here at our home,
And by noon the next day, it was all melted and long gone.
Maybe there is something to this global warming theory.
If the ice cap is melting, it’ll take a while to get here to me.
One of the few pleasures an old man can enjoy in his life,
Is sitting on the bank fishing waiting for a big fish to bite.
Ninety plus degrees just roasts you like a lobster so red,
So Jack Frost, get cool weather here before I am dead.
Back when we fished for the Lake Meredith Walleye Pike,
We recorded air temperatures when Pike started to bite.
By September, the temperature would be about right,
But today, it may be November before we get a Pike fight.
I don’t recall the heat bothering me so much when young,
As I labored outside in 110 degrees F weather in the sun.
I guess everything is harder after we get old and a bit lazy,
But I still want cool weather before the heat drives me crazy.
I can hardly wait until a weatherman does boldly forecast,
The high today will be 68 degrees F with skies overcast.
On that day, I will surely get out my fishing rod and reel,
And head for the lake to fish and some of that cool air feel.
About February, I will again be wishing for a 68 degree day.
As relief for the cold weather that I want to go far away.
I guess I’ve become an outside guy for Spring and Fall too
And I’ll spend the cold and hot weather in my chair being blue.

PS: it’s now October 17 and the predicted high today is 93 degrees F. Still got those summertime blues. Maybe cooler weather by Thanksgiving?
Thanks for reading Summertime Blues,
