Scars

Scars

Scars are reminders of things we have done wrong some how
If you want to minimize your scars, change your life style now,
This poem demonstrates some things that I failed at along
And describes the scars I live with and the things I did wrong

Scars

Bad things that happen to us often leave large external scars,
Perhaps this is to provide reminders to be careful in future affairs.
Accidents and body part failures are the most prevalent causes
Of the ugly marks on our bodies that leave us severely flawed.

I was fortunate since I didn’t get my first major scar until age 43.
Ice froze my ski boot releases in place and destroyed my knee
When I had a fall pulling the inside ligament completely apart.
Repairing the knee required a foot long cut to allow healing to start.

The loss of a year of my normal life and the long ugly knee scar
Are a constant reminder to ski the slopes only from my easy chair
Watching the Winter Olympics while sucking up a very cold beer,
With chips and salsa to remove every little bit of my skiing fear.

My next scar resulted from an Aorta Artery Aneurism inside of me.
The Artery blew up like a ballon and popped bleeding internally.
They made a 14 inch slice from my chest to below my navel,
And repaired my artery while squirting blood all over the table.

I told every one who saw my scar I had been in a knife fight.
They would always say the other guy won slicing you up right.
The scar always reminded me of the years I smoked and ate wrong
Causing me a near death experience hearing the angels song.

The time I had the severe pains of a heart attack hit my chest
Resulted in four of five major arteries 90% blocked after tests.
They cracked my chest open with a saw and bone spreader,
Then made a 24 inch cut down from my groin to remove a vein leader.

Using the vein, a by pass was placed around each of the artery blocks.
Making this a quadruple bypass for my old wrinkled tick tock.
Cracking the chest and wiring it back in place made the recovery hard.
The scars are the worst of the bunch. Watch that cholesterol pard.

While I was on an Alaskan Cruise, I went blind in one eye.
I found out later that I had a blocked right side carotid artery
Cholesterol had sloughed off causing loss of vision of the eye.
A six inch slice allowed cleaning out the goo letting the blood fly.

When I swim with my grandchildren I always cover my scars
When they ask me why, I say my body is ugly and quite bazaar.
I have so many scars, I look sort of like a scary Frankenstein
So if you don’t mind, I’ll leave my tee shirt on all of the time.

Most all of the ugly scars I carry on my body today
Are the result of a bad lifestyle with lots of loose play,
The smoking, beer drinking, and super bad diet almost did me in,
So you young people need to get squared away if you want to win.

You would be surprised what ugly scars linger beneath these clothes that I wear, but they will never be publicly displayed!
