In the past, we had lots of Cowboys that were rowdy.
At first they would fool you as they calmly said howdy.
But behind the smiles were rough and tumble Cowboys,
That I will introduce to you here in this story so coy.

Rowdy Family Cowboys

First is Cowboy Carl Taylor, my daughter’s spouse.
When younger, he was broad in the shoulders like a house,
And kind of slim in the hips with a bit of a baby face,
He’s got that cowboy pocket thumb in the right place.

Next we have Rodeo Roy Kendrick, my maternal granddad,
He was a handsome man in the Indiana Jones hat he had.
With his wild eyes kind of cutting on through you,
Looking like he’s ready to draw his gun if you move.

This next guy is Hawg Jaw Bill in his 10 gallon straw hat,
A lot of people thought Hawg Jaw looked dorky like that,
But with those side burns hanging way down so low,
He looked mean enough that no one ever told him so.

The next Cowboy is Ornery Orville Young, on Pam’s side.
He looks like a Texas Cowboy decked out for a ride.
But he doesn’t really look too cowboy ugly or mean,
I wonder if he’s just dressed up for the holiday, Halloween.

The next cowboy is Wild Bill Barringer from Borger,
He is Pam’s Dad with a felt hat and neckerchief border,
With a big John Wayne grin and his Wrangler Blue Jeans,
Hanging on to a pretty woman whenever he is seen.

This Cowboy is a wooly booger, a Pawhuska man,
He is Notorious Joseph Franklin Long kin to the Taylor Clan.
That’s a real gun and I hear he got into some trouble,
As he rode the range here in Oklahoma on the double.

The next cowboy lived in Fritch, Texas, way out there,
It’s Pam’s sisters husband, Rowdy Robert Cook, I swear.
Rowdy always drove a pickup truck all his long life,
And the sides of his hat up to please his pretty wife.

Then there was Raggedy Ralph Slatten looking rough,
But he was really mean looking and so very tough.
He wore the same old clothes for two or three years,
Until the button fell off his pants driving him to tears.

Rounder Robert Walker ran several horses near Onalaska,
He was married to Granddad Frank’s sister Thelma.
He lived on a ranch way out in the back woods country,
Out where the moss hangs off of the big Post Oak trees.

The next Cowgirl is the best looking one of them all,
It’s Mom, Dead Eye Malelia, before she married Pa.
She could shoot the eye out of an big Idaho Potato,
With her Colt 38 special putting on a good show.

Message:

 

Now you seen a few of our cowboys from the past,
I’m sure every one in Texas and Oklahoma have amassed,
A few Cowboys that they too can brag a little about,
I think we all have a little cowboy in us, no doubt.
