Odds And Ends
.
I opened a cabinet in our living room and a box was there,
Inside were many old remnants of memories so fair.
I pulled a few out so that I can tell you all about them,
Here in this story poem about these odds and ends.

Odds And Ends
.
In that box was my old original army ID card so fine,
With a picture of me shaved so clean at that time.
I was a Private E-1 at the time with $89 monthly salary,
Coming from a job making $1200 a month, you see.
They told me to look mean for the picture.
.
.
I found some Military Payment Certificates from Vietnam,
That they paid our salaries with as soldiers on the run,
The only place we could buy things was the Post Exchange,
Or the NCO club and you could buy a beer for 10 cents change.
They had much bigger bills, this is just what I brought home.
.
.
There was a newspaper clipping of my brother Craig.
He was champion shooter of Trap with his edge,
At the Adobe Walls Gun Club ATA shoot on that day,
I wonder how I out shot him all the time at duck hunt play?
Looking good, bro.
.
.
I found an old news clipping of my sister JerrylDine,
Working on a project as the PTA president so fine,
Such a fine lady she was working with the school,
I think the taster had the best job of the work pool.
Nice job with that popcorn ball forming Doug.
.
.
I never figured my nephew Doug to win a garden award,
But this clipping says he got second place as a reward,
Plus two silver dollars for his poster entry in forth grade.
He must have used his special talent for a poster he made.
Love that haircut Doug.
.
.
I found a old Borger News Herald news clipping so old
From July, 1970, praising my Mom for her Art so bold.
It is a very nice article with lots of good information,
About Mom’s talent as an artist in the American nation.
I’m sure Mom was proud of this article.
.
.
There was also a nice letter to me from the CE VP,
Commending me for my work on Team China in the sea,
Which was a project to recover heavy oil offshore,
In the South China Sea where Phillips did explore.
.
.
Inside that cabinet under a stack of of old photos,
Was an achievement award on a wood plaque for show.
Presented to me for outstanding work performance, I say,
I loved my job and they liked what I did in my own way.
.
.
There was a picture of me in the box dressed as a woman,
Perhaps, the very ugliest woman in the whole land.
We were headed to a Halloween clog dance for fun.
I must say the other guys didn’t like a very tall woman.
I hate this girdle, it’s killing me.
.
.
Finally there was an old picture of me looking fine,
In the bathtub with some soap in my eyes at the time
I thought I was waving to Pam with my whole hand,
At Arroyo Verde, but I see it was a single finger from this man.
I do remember this instant in time.

Message: Check out those old drawers for treasures hidden there that bring back great memories from the past.
