My Old Brass Box

My Old Brass Box

There are things lying hidden in your home from the far past
Waiting for you to rediscover them from their hiding spot at last.
I looked in an old brass box sitting on top of my bedroom chest.
This poem reviews things I found in the box that I liked best.

My Old Brass Box

There is an old brass box that sits atop my bedroom chest.
It’s been there for as long as I can remember with all its zest.
I took a look inside the other day when I had some free time.
It was full of things that brought back memories that were fine.

The things I found inside were little pieces of my own history.
For each Item there, I thought a little to figure out each mystery.
I decided to document the many treasures I found inside it.
To see the time range of life represented by these history bits.

.
I found my U. S. Army brass from Fort Gordon when I was there.
My belt buckle was there as well as my Signal Corp brass ware.
I wore this brass when I was assigned there for school in 1969.
These keepsakes have been laying around for 45 years in time.

The brass I wore way back then. I’m afraid it wouldn’t pass inspection with that poor shine.

Also inside was my inscribed Vietnam Zippo cigarette lighter.
The inscription is not really too nice, but remember I was a fighter.
It was inscribed when I was there in 1970 for almost a full year.
The lighter still works, but I quit smoking in 1986, let’s all cheer.

My Zippo from Vietnam. Don’t worry, the bad stuff is on the other side.

.

I found a country belt buckle with an oil field twist I used to wear.
That buckle two stepped many miles with me over the years.
I bought it in Borger in 1973 and wore it until about 1998 or so,
Honky Tonkin’ hard all over the mid west of the USA, you know.

In that brass box, there was a solid silver coin on a silver chain
That an employee of mine from Argentina gave me for his gain.
Silverrio Garcia was a brown noser for sure in 1979 in the past.
It was in Oklahoma City and he was after a promotion fast.

There was a Bechtel client ID of mine from days I traveled a lot.
I often spent all week working LNG projects in their office plot.
From the picture, it seems like 1992 since I have looked that way.
These little bits of history bring back memories of those days.

imageThis guy looked pretty young back in those days working in Bechtels office.

Take a look in that shoe box up in the closet to find your treasures.
I do believe the things you find in there will bring you pleasures.
It will bring back memories you may have already set aside.
Taking you way back in history for a very good memorable ride.
