My Mother’s Camera
It is easy to see the love Mom had for my sister, JerrylDine, and I,
By the many couple photo’s she took of us during hard times.
Our country was at war and Dad was in the Navy in those days,
But she captured our images which forever will with us stay.

I was born in 1943 and in the first picture you can clearly see me,
As a tiny baby sleeping in my Mom’s arms as happy as can be.
JerrylDine was already standing tall, a very pretty young lady,
In a nice dress, smiling on the porch with that handsome baby.

We were growing fast so Mom set us up a little dinner table,
We had a doll named “Chucky” there for lunch that was unstable.
How about those cute little outfits Mom dressed us in for lunch,
JerrylDine, Chucky, and I were called the Kiddie Wild Bunch.

We loved Daddy so much looking handsome in his Navy outfit,
Mom combed our soft hair so cute giving me a big old cow lick,
And JerrylDine a big old curly lock hanging right down in front.
When Mom combed my hair, I would let out a big old grunt.

About that time, the first cowboy in me started coming on out,
I loved to ride the range on that wooden horse there’s no doubt.
I wondered why that curly lock of JerrylDine’s hanging down,
Didn’t scare our horses causing them to buck us to the ground.

Mom always bought us the very latest fashions in swim wear,
Making us very proud to swim on those beaches everywhere.
I think I was flexing my muscles for the girls, there is no doubt,
Standing there smiling with my left butt cheek hanging on out.

Sometimes Mom dressed me in outfits that embarrassed me so,
JerrylDine laughed at my funny little hat Mom said was for show.
It made me unhappy until I took a good look at her funny outfit.
Then I laughed at her so hard that it was so very hard to quit.

Mom loved to sew so she often made us new clothes to wear.
Since Dad was in the Navy, she made sailor outfits so debonair,
That made me feel more masculine looking so much like Dad,
I’m not too sure JerrylDine liked being a sailor as she looks sad.

After Dad left the Navy, to Philview camp near Borger we did go,
Mom dressed us in simple summer outfits that I really did love so.
My outfit was just underwear and shorts looking really nice,
JerrylDine wore a two piece suit looking like sugar and spice.

As we got a little older, Mom dressed us both up nice and fancy
JerrylDine wore an English lassie hat looking like a fine lady.
And I wore some striped jeans with a real cowboy neckerchief,
From the look on my face, I was in a confused state of disbelief.

Occasionally, Mom took us to a professional family picture shop,
Making us sit still while we looked up until the shutter did pop.
This resulted in the best picture records of us from the past,
With us looking so good in those photos that did so long last.
