My Caretaker
.
Since I have grown old, there is a very special lady,
Who takes very good care of me like I was a baby.
She holds my hand when I walk down the front steps,
And scolds me a little when a bad word I do let slip.
.
My Caretaker
.
Who is this wonderful caretaker of mine you ask,
That helps me so much with a lot of my simple tasks?
It is my granddaughter Sarah that helps me along,
As her whole body is filled with goodness so strong.
.
.
When Sarah spends the night with us sometimes,
She helps me cook breakfast in the morning so fine,
I cook the patty sausage and the eggs she does scramble.
She does an excellent job as together we do ramble.
.
.
If Sarah stays longer than one day visiting us here,
She always wants to go to Weeze’s Cafe so near,
She always helps me quite a lot, so we do go there.
She’s has a waffle with jelly with sausage so fair.
.
.
When we go lake fishing with all my three grandsons,
Sarah helps me dig out the worms as we have fun,
So I can bait the hooks for the boys as they fish hard,
Catching big fish fast with those worms like stars.
.
.
When we went to a show at Sarah’s church one day,
She sang a solo like an angel in a very special play,
Sarah found a seat for me so nice, soft, and clean,
Then brought me a big bowl of homemade ice cream.
.
.
Sometimes when I get bored, Sarah and I play games,
She gives me lots of joy when I’m bored going insane.
She puts me right down when we arm wrestle some,
And gets gravy out of my beard with her little comb.
.
.
We go to Carl and Kristi’s for Thanksgiving dinner.
Continuing a family tradition that is a real winner.
Sarah always helps me with the relish trays so fine,
We even made a beautiful relish tray turkey one time.
.
.
Sometimes when I feel like l want dance just for fun.
Sarah always two steps with me nicely until I am done.
She makes this old man feel young for a short while,
While dancing so good with me with her pretty smile.
.
.
When we went on our summer outing to a lake retreat,
Sarah got up early with me because she’s so sweet.
We sat out on the balcony overlooking the big lake,
And called to the birds with our whistles so fake.
.
.
As a very old man, I am prone to stumble and to fall,
So Sarah holds my hand to keep me standing so tall.
I think just because she was always there beside me,
I tended to be much more careful walking so free.
.
.
Message: A Granddaughter’s love is so special to old men. What in the world would we do without them.
