My Bridge Partner
When we went home for to holidays with our families in Fritch.
My Dad always wanted to play Bridge after the Turkey dish,
He always wanted to be my partner because we thought the same,
This poem investigates why we nearly always won the game.
.
My Mom and Dad at one of our holiday dinner family get togethers. Old Pappy is raring to play some bridge for sure.

My Bridge Partner
.
I learned to play bridge in college with buddies at the dorm,
We played a lot and learned the game well in very good form,
After I graduated, I played bridge with the engineers at lunch,
These guys played tough, and became the lunch bridge bunch.
..
My Dad learned from playing with friends and reading the books,
He played during the week at the seniors entertainment nook.
He had a Nintendo Game Center with a bridge game he wore out
And became quite proficient at contract bridge, there’s no doubt.
.
i count 15 high card points and 1 distribution point for a total of 16 points in this hand.
.
..
We counted our high card points including those for suit voids.
If I had 13 points, I opened with one with puckered hemerrhroids.
If my Dad had 13 points also, he would jump shift the bid up,
And I knew we were on our way to game bid with our trumps.
.
.
When we played as partners, we’d agree up front on our play,
We would use the club convention if a slam was on the way.
A four club bid was asking for aces and if he answered 4 hearts,
I would know he had two aces to support my hand for a start.
.
.
I would then bid five clubs asking him how many kings he had,
A five diamond bid told me he had one King and decided the bid.
I would either go to six or seven depending on my hand content,
And we would be playing a slam with finesses as along we went.
.
.
When we bid the hand correctly, we would always make the bid.
If we lost a trick along the way, the old man would slam the kid.
He would holler at me a little, and tell what I should have done,
I said sorry I just don’t agree, I’m afraid your mistake was the one.
.
What we said was all in fun, and when it was all said and done,
We would beat our opponents quite good with a few long runs.
We always argued about the play, as we went along the way.
But that was the fun of the game to see who was best that day..
.
Pam getting some last minute instructions from old Pappy as they try to beat my brother Craig and I.
..
Sometimes my Dad played partners with Pam my lovely wife,
He got to do a lot more hollering as she put him in deep strife.
Many times old Pappy would lose to my brother Craig and I,
We would agitate him a little and then laugh loud until we cried.
,
.
Well Craig, I guess we should have eased up a little on them, as they took the loss pretty hard.
.
.
Those times we spent enjoying the holidays together as one,
Will remain etched in my memory until my time here is done.
We don’t get together anymore as my Sister, Mom, and Dad,
Have gone on to their place in Heaven leaving us here all sad.
