Mom’s Old Art Box

Mom’s Old Art Box

.

In Kristi’s old bedroom just under the sink in there,
Sat an old cardboard box, I opened with much care.
It hasn’t been opened since we put it there 2001,
And I’ll tell you in this poem what was inside so fun.

There was a lot of Mom’s art stuff inside that old box,
That had some of her old painting building blocks.
With old pencil sketches, old pictures, and such.
She had used as the basis for art work I loved so much.

.

I found a pencil sketch for Kristi’s profile oil painting
Mom always drew a pencil sketch before even starting,
To be sure things were proportional looking as it should,
Resulting in a final painting that always was so good.

Sketch Mom used for Kristi’s profile oil painting.

There was also a fighting roosters pencil sketch in there,
That was for the fighting rooster oil painting I have here.
It’s kind of interesting how she got from idea to final art,
Developing a good idea from scratch at the very start.

I have an painting in upstairs bedroom of an Indian boy,
Mom painted a long time ago looking so very coy.
In that box I found the old sketch she used back then,
That she transferred to the canvas when she did begin.

In that box was a picture that I believe I took on zoom,
Out near Mom’s South Fork cabin of yuccas in bloom.
This is likely the basis for the blooming yucca oil painting,
She gave me back in 1971 that is now in my den hanging.

There was also a post card of a old country scene,
With an old road and blue bonnets with trees of green,
That looks amazingly like a painting she did in oil.
That she took a picture of and put it in the box in foil.

The Country Scene Post card.

Mom’s Country Scene finished oil painting. The Washers may have this one hanging in their home.

There was a photo of shirts hand painted by Mom,
In that old box tucked away out of sight for so long.
This may have been her display for the Phillips Free Fair,
Pam still has two hand painted shirts she still does wear.

I believe this was Mom’s display at Phillips Free Fair one year.

Pam still has two of those hand painted shirts she keeps in our cedar closet.

In a bedroom upstairs is a water fall painting on the wall
I thought it looked a lot like the Coors Ad water fall.
I found a picture called Coors Falls by the locals.
I wonder if Mom used that picture as a painting focal?

Twin Falls the locals call “Coors Falls”

I also found in that box, Miss December 1970 center fold,
I gave Mom to paint in 1971, single and 27 years old.
She painted me an oil that I hung back then on my wall.
I put a Internet link here so you can peek, it’s your call.

In that box there was a sketch of a dog with a duck,
My brother Craig, had a black lab to retrieve all our luck.
I can’t remember Mom painting this sketch up back then,
But Craig may have this oil hanging in his own den.

It sure looks like Craig’s Labador Retriever.

I enjoyed looking at stuff in the old box I went through,
Mom worked very hard on all the fine art she produced.
Putting hundreds of hours into the art treasures she made,
So thank you Mom up in heaven, your memory will never fade.

Thanks Mom.
