Lost Along The Way
.
We lose something along the way as we do get old,
That keeps us from doing what we used to do so bold.
What is this thing we lose somewhere along our way?
I’ll tell you if you read this message story poem today.
.
Lost Along The Way
.
When I was a boy and fell down after stubbing my toe,
I sprung back up to my feet in a short moment or so.
Now if I catch my toe and and fall down to the ground
I crack a rib and it takes three men to get me up, I’ve found.
.
I’ve been trying to put my finger on “it” or when I lost it,
And exactly what “it” was I lost giving me such big fits,
I recall one event that happened about the year 2005,
Which made me feel like I was aging fast losing my jive.
.
.
I loved to take long soaking hot sit down tub baths,
As I was in the tub just finishing sitting on my ass.
I tried to get up and I just couldn’t do it anymore then,
I finally turned around to my knees and pulled up again.
.
This was not long after I had a quadruple heart bypass,
That put me down for a long time laying on my ass.
My muscles had deteriorated a lot as I was so weak,
And cracking my chest had made me feel so meek.
.
.
I had had other problems a little earlier with my body,
That had left me very weak and a little bit shoddy,
With a ruptured aorta and blocked arteries in my legs,
Just walking gave me much pain which was the dregs.
.
.
The thing I lost along the way was my health, I say,
But wait, I did not lose my Health, I just gave it away.
Primarily because of my heavy smoking for 25 years,
Resulting in the problems that made me old and in tears.
.
.
There are so many people that are still smoking today,
Ruining their precious health along their own way.
I beg of all you young smokers thinking you’re so smart,
Stop now, before you completely destroy your heart.
.
.
And block all the arteries carrying your blood stream.
Destroying your health causing pain and loud screams.
Don’t be thinking “that will never happen to me.”
Because it will and you will then suffer too, you see.
.
.
So I appeal to you and your good sense right now.
Stop smoking those cigarettes someway, somehow,
Or you too will ruin your health before you should,
And suffer grave consequences circulating your blood.
.
.
Message:
No matter how cool that you think you may be,
Smoking those cigarettes for others to see,
In the end it will surely destroy your own health,
Which can’t be fixed, not even with big wealth.
