Jones On The Jukebox
I wondered what it would “Take Me” to write a poem completely,
With a Jones song title on every line with the “Choices” that be,
I decided to try and “The Race Is On” to get it done real soon
With me working like “White Lightning” to think of the tunes.
Jones On The Jukebox
When George married Tammy, he gave her a “Golden Ring”
They lived in a “Two Story House” as together they did sing.
As she left he said “If Drinking Don’t Kill Me Her Memory Will.”
He drank “Tennessee Whiskey” as the bottle he tried to kill.
George said she’s just “A Girl I Used To Know” a while ago.
As he visited the “Honky Tonk Downstairs” more than you know.
He remembered her as “The One I Knew Back Then” as he drank.
And wondered if “She Thinks I Still Care” being a bit of a crank.
He also wondered if “He Stopped Loving Her Today” once more,
But he could not see “A Picture Of Me Without You” in his core,
He asked her “Why Baby Why” did you have to leave me that way,
While he was still living in his “Tender Years” and ready to play.
She just told him to go ahead and take “The Grand Tour” anywhere,
And he said OK let’s go to “Southern California” and live there,
She said dream on George, “We’re Not The Jet Set” forget it.
And George said but honey I just want to be “Near You” a bit.
George said “Things Have Gone To Pieces” with Tammy it’s true,
And “These Days I Barely Get By” as he was feeling very blue,
He thought I guess this is the “Colour Of The Blues” so sadly.
As if he had just had a visit from “The Blues Man” feeling badly.
George Jones was one of a kind and the feelings he put into his songs made him one of my all time favorites.
As George aged, he wondered “Who’s Gonna To Fill Their Shoes,”
When the old guys go to “The Window Up Above” making the news,
George sang “I Don’t Need Your Rocking Chair” singing on tune.
And claimed he was just a “High Tech Redneck” still able to croon.
George felt like he was “Still Doin’ Time” when he got bored.
He said “Don’t Stop The Music” to get things a little restored.
He hollered out “I’m A One Woman Man” on the barroom floor.
Laughing loud as he escorted a pretty lady right out “The Door.”
He gave the lady some “Wine Colored Roses” just so lovely
Asking her to take a long “Walk Through This World With Me”
Merle came in and they drank some “C C Waterback” whiskey,
Both saying “I Was Country When Country Wasn’t Cool” briskly.
He gave the lady a ring and put it on “The Right Left Hand”
As George explained that he was still the “Same Ole Me” so grand.
They celebrated with a big bottle of “Yesterday’s Wine” so red,
And topped it off with some “Wild Irish Rose” whiskey in bed.
George was again bitten by that tiny little thing called the “Love Bug.”
He told his lady “I Always Get Lucky With You” laying on the rug,
And told her it was a “Good Year For The Roses” as they rested,
She said George I think that “We Can Make It” after being so tested.
