Hee Haw Fever
.
There was a fine TV show that was always so very right for me,
Perhaps because of my very deep roots into good old country.
The show made me laugh and forget all of my worldly woes,
Giving me a bad case of “Hee Haw” fever for more of the show.

Hee Haw Fever
There was a great show on TV that I just would never ever miss,
That was about as silly as they come full of pure country bliss.
I believe it was a country spin off of Rowan and Martin’s Laugh In.
Buck Owens and Roy Clark hosted the show called “Hee Haw” then.

Minnie Pearl was always there on the show looking down homey.
With her “Howdy, I’m just so proud to be here” yelled out so boldly.
It was like you had the Grand Ole Opry right in your living room,
With the corny stories we all loved to hear in her hat as it did bloom.

There was the Hee Haw Quartet that sang great gospel songs,
Harmonizing well with that guitar and banjo playing so strong.
Those old gospel songs just made you feel so good all over,
Perhaps as good as lying in a big field of purple flowered clover.

Then there was the wonderful Culhain family looking so fine,
With Grandpa Jones, Lulu Roman and some more of their kind.
With that dry country humor that made us all laugh so very loud,
As they performed so well right there in front of a real live crowd.

I recall Junior Sample and his used car lot called “Sample Sales,”
With his bumbling slow talking sales pitch and his funny tales.
Ending with that memorable business phone number of BR-549,
The skits were stupid, but his character made us laugh all the time.

There was Grandpa Jones in his “what’s for supper” sessions,
Giving us a detailed description of a wonderful full meal progression.
Usually, he was looking out the kitchen window grinning nice.
As he spouted out all of those very good things to us entice.

I loved those little singing quickies with Archie Campbell and friend,
Of “i searched the world over..” acting like unruly country kin.
I especially loved the ending with them looking at each other,
Spitting out those giant raspberries like two silly little brothers.

When the good looking ladies and Lulu Roman did laundry together,
The singing gossip would fly making us roll with that laughter,
I loved those young ladies using those wash tubs and boards,
Shaking those big schlonskis just bouncing around like big gourds.

.
Those moonshiner sessions with that old lifeless Blood Hound dog,
With Roy Clark looking right at home sitting on that big log,
With that big jug of white lightning in his big old right hand.
Just singing while a little bit tipsy just like a real mountain man.

There was a serious part of the show for famous country stars,
Like Johnny Cash singing while sitting on an old country cart.
I loved that show because of the good country talent on there,
And I think laughing always made me feel good, I do declare.
