Good Brown Beans

Good Brown Beans

.

It was now Sunday morning and my turn to cook,
As I sat there in my easy chair giving my iPad a look,
Pam got up and then ask me “Bill, what’s for dinner,”
So I told her Good Brown Beans as they are a winner.

So I got right up and put on my cooking top and shorts,
And my red fuzzy top house shoes for a little sport.
Then headed for the kitchen because I sure did know,
When Pam is hungry, she gets grouchy, making me woe.

Those soft fuzzy topped red house shoes I do love so.  I spilled bean juice on the left one though.

.

I knew it was my turn to cook last night before bed,
So I got out some “Hambeens” with Pinto Beans in red,
And dumped them on the flat surface of the table,
And sorted them to remove stones from that staple.

My favorite pinto beans with a packet of ham flavor inside.

.

I then raked them into MaMo’s old aluminum pot,
And filled the pot half full of water to soak them a lot,
Overnight so they would not have to cook so long,
The next day when Pam’s hunger was getting strong.

MaMo Barringer’s old cast aluminum pot that cooks those brown beans up so hot.

.

So that next morning I headed in the kitchen to cook again,
And I dumped the soak water and added more water then,
And put them on the stove top on high heat to boil,
As I went over to the refrigerator to begin more toil.

Defrosted ham ends cut into 1 inch cubes to put in the beans.

.

I pulled out an onion and ham I defrosted last night,
And a jar of old Old Paso jalapeños with heat so right,
Then chopped 1 1/2 pounds of ham in 1 inch chunks,
And quartered the big onion into very nice sized hunks.

One big white onion quartered to put in the beans.

.

Then pulled out two big table spoons of Jalapeños,
And cut each one in half to give spice I do love so.
After those beans had cooked on high one hour,
I dumped in the ham, onion, and jalapeños for power.

Two table spoons of these beauties cut in half to put in the beans.

.

I turned the beans down a notch to let them devour,
All the flavor from the additions I made that hour,
And then I started drawing a Bighead toon right then,
Of a guy cooking chili on a wood campfire on a whim.

I guess cooking the beans drew this guy out of my brain.

The Good Brown Beans cooking had a very good aroma,
As I sat there drawing in my home in northeast Oklahoma,
Feeling so fine that day with no particular worries,
Ready for a bowl of those beans as my stomach flurried.

That wonderful aroma from those brown beans cooking was tickling my hunger buds.

.

Ummmm, those brown beans were so very good,
As Pam and I enjoyed them so much , just like we should.
It a couple of hours the musical fruit started its tune,
With those loud smelly sounds that filled our room.

Yummy dummy do, there’ll be lots of gas coming from you.

.

So that evening, we ate another bowl of those beans,
To keep the air in our house smelling a little mean,
But the loud sounds and smells were not so bad,
Because those Good Brown Beans made us so glad.

The Good Brown Beans were so great today.
