Getting Older

Getting Old

As we get older, it’s so hard to come to the realization that we just can’t do many of the  things that we did in the past. A lot of the time, we learn the hard way by pulling a muscle or falling down and then we aren’t able to get up with out help. Here’s a few words about getting old.

Getting Old

When we get to be 72 years old or older, your perspective on life changes. The things we used do like dancing, partying, swimming, boating, and so on become of much less importance because of physical condition and health problems that plague us old farts. We miss all the fun activities we used to do with friends, but then a lot of our friends are in the same boat we are, and many of them are older than we are.

Recently, a very good friend of ours named Dale passed away from a massive heart attack following a day of skiing on the slopes. We heard yesterday that a friend of ours named Joe had a stroke and is now in rehab. A friend of ours named Linda was diagnosed recently with cancer. Her husband Gene recovered from a kidney transplant a few years ago. Buffalo Bob now has three herniated discs in his lower back and is almost immobile. His wife Brenda was recently rear ended on the freeway by a semi truck and was pushed over the car in front of her. They had to cut her out of the vehicle with the jaws of life and she spent several days in the hospital. She has a broken bone in her foot and she has been so sore she can hardly move. We feel fortunate that we are fairly healthy at this time compared to many of our close friends.

The things that have become most important to us in recent years are family and especially our grandchildren. We are looking forward to a 3 day outing with them in early June this year to a large cabin on Broken Bow Lake. At home, we spend a lot of time in our big boy easy chairs watching Cable TV, Net Flicks, and Amazon Instant Video. We both have iPads which we both spend a lot of time on during the day. The blog takes up a bit of my time which is good. At present, we don’t plan to get much more active than we already are. If we can just keep the pain away a while longer, we will be comfortable living in the manner we now do with an occasional trip to visit family.
