Fancy Foods To Avoid

.

Out there in many fancy restaurants are dishes so fine,
Such as Chitlins, Haggis, and Sweet Breads with wine,
That sounds so good on the menu as you read through.
Be careful what you order or it may make you blue.

Chitlins” are a dish of the southern states in the USA,
They are small intestine chunks from a pig, I do say.
They look pretty good laying there on that big plate,
But thinking of what was in them makes my stomach ache.

.

“Haggis” is a Scotland dish made from choice cuts of meat,
Like sheep stomach, liver, heart, and tongue so sweet,
All chopped and mixed together with some suet too.
I know you will eat every little bite until you are through.

.

“Sweet Breads” are organ meat from pancreas or thymus gland,
I ordered them once down in Texas Panhandle land,
But one bite and I knew they were not going down,
And I left that fancy restaurant hungry with a frown.

.

“Rocky Mountain Oysters” also called calf fries in places,
Are made from bull or calf nuts thin sliced, good gracious.
Then deep fried to a golden brown in hot Crisco oil,
I can’t eat them as the thought of sliced nuts makes me toil.

.

“Cervelle De Veau” is calf brains cooked up so very nice,
With asparagus spears and just a touch of spice.
They look so appetizing laying there on that plate,
Cooked medium rare with that pink juice that I hate.

.

“Gyutan” is a Japanese dish made from grilled cow tongue,
It looks so good laying there on the plate well done.
With sliced cucumber and onion salad with white rice,
If it wasn’t cow tongue I would try it once or twice.

.

“Paru Goreng” is an Indonesian dish made from fried cow lung,
With peppers, greens, and sauce that burns the tongue.
It really looks like a treat that would be good to eat,
But the thought of eating that cow lung causes me to retreat.

.

“Cajun Boudin Blanc Sausage” is south Louisiana made,
From pork heart and liver in several Cajun grades.
It really looks mouth watering cooked up so very nice,
But I just can’t stomach the taste or the Cajun spice.

.

“Jamaican Oxtail” is made from the sliced tail of cattle,
This delicacy doesn’t even look good on the saddle,
But I guess if you want to eat tail, it’s surely your choice,
And when you do finish, you may even then rejoice.

.

So when you go to one of those expensive cafes,
Be sure you listen close to what they have to say,
Or you may get something that may make you upchuck,
Made out of the feet of chicken called “La Chic Fete Le Cluck”.
