Dark Places
.
Many young boys are often afraid when they are in dark places,
You can often see that they don’t want to go there by their faces.
The poem today explains why I was afraid of the dark as a boy,
Don’t force children to endure the dark as discipline you deploy.

Dark Places
.
When I was a young very impressionable boy, I was a little unstable,
I was not sure what creatures were real and which were fables.
I had seen all kind of monsters and scary things in comic books,
Whose images were lurking back there in my little brains nooks.
.
.
.
For some unknown reason when I went into a very dark place,
Those images were stirred as my mind was stimulated and did race.
They began to appear right in front of me in the pitch black dark.
As I could see them very clearly about to rip out my little heart.

As soon as the light was switched on they made a fast dash,
I wondered how they could move so quickly, just gone in a flash.
Could it be that the light burned them up like a vampire on sight.
I guess that’s why I never wanted to go into a room without light.

Back then they had comic books to buy for just ten cents each,
I loved the super hero comics as world saving they did teach.
But there was always an array of bad guys and monsters to see.
That were etched in my mind, easy to recall in a dark room by me.

.
Superman comics about a Daily Planet reporter like a sissy girl,
That was really a superman from Krypton ready to save the world.
His main opponent was a bad bald headed guy named Lex Luthor,
I often saw him there in the dark ready to knock me onto the floor.

.
Batman and Robin comics were favorite super heroes of mine too,
They fought The Joker, The Penguin, and Mr Freeze so blue.
They were very bad guys hurting people every chance they got,
I conjured up these guys in a dark room a few times scaring me a lot.
.
.
..
Captain America comics made an All American Hero for sure.
I loved that guy with his strength and super shield so very pure.
The bad guys he whipped and always put down on the ground,
Came back to me in 3 D when a very dark room I often found.

.
When I got a little older, the visions I saw in the dark went away,
I was sure glad because I might not have made it if they stayed.
I guess I was just super sensitive to the monster bad guys then.
I’m so glad I didn’t have to go through life seeing the worst of them.

Today, the exposure to monsters and creatures is much greater,
With the animation they can now do for movies in the theater.
It’s a wonder children will go near a dark room with their exposure.
Screen their TV programs and movies as they will always be a lure.

After I turned 70 years old, I’ve noticed I again see scary images,
In dark rooms just laying in the bed when I begin to imagine.
They still disturb me enough to turn on the light and take a look,
But they always disappear immediately as they were just gobbledygook.
